sierra rebuild costs?

G'day all,

My mate has an '89 sierra that has been a bloody great toy. Although when i told him to top the oil up, he really topped it up!!!! I'm talking to the top of the rocker covers, i guess he figured it was topped up!

Any way, no need to say what happened in the next few months..... the engine is now rooted. I got a quote from a guy i know who said he'd be looking at about $1400 worth of parts for a full rebuild. Block, heads, cam etc. all machined.

Can anyone say if this sounds right or what you think a full rebuild would cost? It does need a birthday, its had a tuff life, so he wants to do it properly, not a shitty rebuild.

any advice would be good. thanx

tell him to pay a little extra and get a 1600 vitara engine he will love the power increase.

Another (simpler) alternative would be to simply replace it with another sierra engine... i know of one such G13A (complete with gear box and all odds and ends for $600...
