Missing

Post by david123 »

I have just recently build a write off to roadworthy, when I was playing in her, motor ran as smooth as silk, G16B with 115ks. When I took her in for Tier 3 an roadworthy inspection, thought id give her a wash, spiderwebs were in the grill so give them a blast as well.

When i started her, she was a bit ruff, my first thought was, hmm, water on the ignition, bugga, but it never stopped ruff, as in a miss.

I have checked all the ignition, tested ohms on the leads, changed plugs, cap and rotor, even unto checking the valve clearences just in case it was a co-incidence, pulled the injector controlds off one by one, all to no avail, 118k now, and she is still ruff. Checked fuel supply and return.

You can feel her hunting at low revs, at idle, she will hunt as well, when warm an no choke, she will be ruff and you can here the wop of the miss, and then softly she will increase revs an run smooth as silk, then back to ruff, up and donw, 5 secs or so of each.

In the workshop manual, there are two G16Bs, 94 to 98 and 98 02, the 94-98 sez fuel injected, the 98-02 sez 16 valve electronic fuel injection. Er wot, big letters on the side of mine sez EFI and she is 16V, the only thing that sez not the 98-02 is distributorless ignition, but muc h more sez the later model than the earlier, there is bugger all diff in valve clearence just wondering is all.

Anyone got any ideas.

what model u got?

dizzy or dizzyless model?

there is also two different ones in the dizzy style, easiest difference is the airflow airbox plug.

Have u tried resetting the ecu? unplug and leave off for hour or so.

Mine is a dizzy, lol is why I replaced the cap and rotor. Its just the EFI and 16V bit that caught my eye.

what Suzuki have u got?

a vit or sierra conversion?

if its a (92 shape) vit then the ecu is up under the dash on the rhs i think almost behind the steering column.

u may also be confused as some models had EFI and some had EPI i think. they are basically the same but minor differences.

Would unplugging the battery do the same as crawling under the dash and unplugging the ECU?

Der of course, thanks, saves me trying to get into a tight spot with my size, thanks.

She is a little JX Vitara. Dunno what they came out with, but she has power steer and aircon, looks like my daughters 88 (i think) vitara.

have you kocked the wire off it as it will cause the ecu to get a wrong temp signal and make it hunt or run rich as it will make the ecu think that the motor is cold
