I have fitted the highmount to the GU. It is all a pretty tight fit, with about 10mm spare behind the winch.
There is a 2 inch body lift in mine that may be all the difference between you hitting the air con fan or just having to trim the bottom corner off it.
Basically we cut the existing winch mount bracket off the bar and and cut it between the two horizontal bars so the winch sits at the same height as the standard one but about 20-30mm forward.
It all looks fairly standard(apart from the dirty big highmount hanging out the top and the missing grille), but I don't know what the RTA would say or insurance. :?
You can refit the grille if you cut it up a bit but with the winch and the 240's there I wanted to get as much air in as possible and it doesn't look too bad without it anyway.
I can get photos of the finished deal but we didn't get any as we were doing it so it won't show much. Best advice...measure, measure, measure!!!!

Hi
I cut the whole center of my bar out and put a new centre in the main plate is 12mm mild steel the bottom bar is 4mm wall RHS and the round bar is solid 20mm diameter solid bar . Then just mark out your 4 holes for your mounting and the hole for your winch cable.paint it up and away you go . You might have to cut your grill to get it to fit Here is some pics of my set up

I have one fitted to an ARB bar.

The main structural part was not touched. Removed the mounting plate, trimmed the a few bits and welded on a new mounting plate. Bought a cheap grille and trimmed that to suit.

I have fitted a high mount to my standard GU winch bar, (with out cutting the top out), It took a lot of work but all worked out in the end,
this is what I did, after lots of research , I came to the conclusion that it needed to run backwards to be mounted on the original mountings, from this I looked at getting new gears cut to allow the brake to work correctly, but the cost of this was just not worth it, (Giggle pin UK) were the best priced and very helpfull.

So after someone from this site suggested that I could turn the winch around it would reverse the brake direction,(cheers) . As high mounts are a bottom spool winch, and a standard GU winch bar needs to top spool the rope.

So I stripped the winch and got some mounting feet welded to the back of the main lower case, modeled of the other side,
On the top case I had some weld added so I could redrill the motor mounting bolt holes to allow the motor to be rotated at 90' , This was to clear the top as it was very close, still had to cut the back lip out a bit to get it in.

I reassembled the winch and made a cradle to bolt the back bolt holes as well, and then made a winch release leaver to suit,
This was a lot of work but it is tidy and works well
( this winch pulled me out of the Jarden river bogged to the axles with the camper on the back, single line pull in soft sand)

Here is a couple of pics of my assembled winch.

These pics are not that clear but may be enough to understand.

Removed the original mounting plate and the section in black to move the winch forward.

Made a new winch mounting plate and welded this to the remaining frame.

Cut and braced the top of the bar.

Picked up a cheap grille and trimmed this to suit.

If you need clearer pics pm your email and I will take some and send them through.

Cheers
