Been a while since we started this project so probably is time for an update.

Theres been ups and downs, but you get that with R&D.

Car has been in twice so far for different mods.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Housing 1: Picked up car, it had a lovely BB turbo sound to it off idle Cool Cool ... The power (over 115kw) was very nice, and torquey (up over 60%)! But it squealed like bitch when you sank the loud pedal..

This was due to too much pressure on the turbine side of the turbo Couldnt keep it as it was, so drove it for a week while we sorted out more bits. All good.

EGT Dropped 100 degrees across the range which was a great bonus..
Towed trailer NOICELY!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Housing 2: Having driven it for a week now, compared to housing 1, it has lost lots of low down torque, and feels like lot of power gawn. Feels flat.

Lots of boost, but you wouldnt know. :( Once your moving it feels ok...

EGT up again compared to housing 1, sort of like before H1..

Andy looked disappointed with the result when I picked it up..
He has put in a lot of time with this so far.. But R&D is like that. Not everything is black and charcoal..

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Housing 3: Is on the way, probably 2-3 weeks away.
This is the next stage of the trials.. Possibly the last one.

If housing #3 doesnt achieve the desired results, then he has offerd full refund, or another option (get it ready    ) You cant ask better than that.

I am still keen to see the project through to the end, I put my hand up and realised what was involved from day 1.. If I pulled out now, the time and effort put into this so far would be wasted.

Goin away next weekend for a drinkies weekend with some mates I've hired, so will see how it goes then offroad, but hoping theres no stop start steep hills!

So there ya have it.

I'd suggest the same size housing for the front as you were using origionally if one is available with an anti-surge front cover, it sounds like you were experiencing compressor surge. They are sometimes hard to get but do work better. Its similar to when you put your hand over a vacuum cleaner, the compressor can't grab the air and it unloads and revs up. You can also get that from too smaller intake, air filter restriction, snorkel. Unload the intake restriction as much as possible as turbos don't suck, they blow. ;)

Interesting Joel, if they cant suck then they have nothing to blow right. :?

Yes im reading. The intake is the same as others that have done 130rwkw, so I don't see a restriction, however I never measured it either.

May give you a call Joel.

Glad to help if I can.

Don't give up the end result will be worth it, we have made a number of changes to the turbos we use, the weight of the vehicle, driver, pump, exhaust, intake, transmission all change the end result, I have had to change housings on vehicles where the same configuration is fine in other vehicles.

Cheers

Bit of an update.

Now that the xmas/new yrs period is over, we will get back onto this. I've had plenty of PM's asking for info on it.

Everyone has been away on hols, Suppliers, Andy, and myself.

So it is still going, and not dead in the water yet.

Spoke with Andy today, hes in contact with the supplier and will see where we are at with stage 3.
If that fails, we go straight to stage 4

Car goes back in next week to him after the long weekend. so hopefully all will be good.. :)

Last update:
Well picked it up today - Finished... Andy had a smile, that was a great sign!!! Actually the car was ready Tuesday, but I offered for him to keep it for a few days to try things, and drive around to make sure he was happy with it (Actually I couldnt get there until today )

In the end it turned out that Stage 3 didn't happen, and I ended up with stage 4 - a nice shiney new Garrett    Andy has worked with these before, and knows them well.

:End Result:

265 AT's: 386 Ftlb (522.75Nm)
265 AT's: 130rwkw@102kph

285 MTRs: 312 Ftlb (422.54Nm)
285 MTRs: 111rwkw@108kph
Figures converted from Ftlb using
http://www.mr2ownersclub.com/converter.htm

Now I always realised there would be a bit of difference in power and torque from 31's to 33's, but didn't realise how much you lose with going up 2inches in tire size!

Anyway, onto driving it..

So far I have only driven it 60 odd klms home from Lilydale Via Eastlink with a few dozen traffic lights in the middie then freeway. Stop starting, you notice the difference. It actually goes! It is Soooooooo SMOOOoooth . No squealing, no oil leaks, and feels great!

Very nice even power Delivery from standing up to 100 with no flat spots, and power delivery comes in from low down.

EGT's are down ~100-150 degrees over the Housing 2

Car goes back to Andy after 1000klms for checking fittings and general once over. Thats service !!

To Andy and his team, thanks for your time, and work with this.. Good to deal with someone that tells you how it is upfront instead of stringing you along with drivel, lies and bullshit.. That makes a change!

It is a shame that the first 2 didn't work out more for his sake than mine as Andy and his team put a shit load of time and effort into this project. But thats what R&D is all about isnt it, not everything you try will work.

There ya have it... Now, how to get 130rw with the 285s

Quick update:

Well all good

So far, EGT's crusing on eastlink are sub 250c  And out of the round abouts on Westernport where I could get 550+ before I've struggled to get 475c (450-500). This was one concen of mine, but A told me this would be different and it wouldnt be an issue...

Notice that first gear seems short now, almost like a troopy, which is annoying, not sure what I can do there, I already have 3.9's.

Fuel consumption, yes it uses fuel. I haven't been through a tank full yet, so haven't measured. Will be towing a trailer after goin to Docs tonight I hope, and on weekend, so will get mixed results this time through.

Am I happy with the end result?
It gets a ImageImageImageImageImage rating :)
Just need to get rid of that muffler (its cracked :() to hear the turbo a little clearer (hang on, Im not 18, that doesnt matter anymore Image)

Still want that 20kw extra back :(

Will report back in few weeks with update on fuel consumption...
