nissan / datsun 720

has any one changed a gearbox out of a nissan 4x4 720 diesal before if so how did u do it?
i have looked at it and it looks like the hole front ifs diff would need to come out (the front diff looks like a gearbox itself its long) or would i be just better off taking the engine out to change the gearbox it really is a shit setup

any help appreciated

LOL it isnt a yellow dual cab is it? That was my old one, yes i had to take the front diff out. Was a C*** of a job. i couldnt really see antoher way of doing it either, it made life hard let me tell you, when it shat finally and shredded 3rd i got rid of her there a great truck but they are a pain to work on

sounds like its my old one.

well i had to pull the front diff out when i did it, maybe someone knows another method lol. Took me 4 cases and a long weekend. :D

yea wouldnt be many 720's in australia..

well 99% of them would have rusted away by now, so maybe it is yours.. :lol:

yeah the bloke i bought my MQ off now owns a yellow duel cab 720, he bought it off a mate who has another 2 yellow duelcab 720s. my uncle only recently sold his yellow duel cab 720, got 12grand for it! was in imaculate condidion with a worked engine and 31inch claws and a few other mods... ran very very nicely... and theres a yellow duel cab 720 park down the street from me most weekdays...



rare as hens teeth them yellow duel cabs...

Yep I have & yes you do as the transmission cross member is not removable.

Its still a PITA with the diff out but at least you dont have the transfer attatched (if its the one with the divorced transfer).
Don't ask me, ask them. I'm just runnin for my life myself.
