Engine Trouble in 81 SWB Sierra 1ltr
Engine Trouble in 81 SWB Sierra 1ltr
I have done a bit of a search on the site and couldn't find much info to help me out so i am asking you guys for some knowlegde as i am fairly new to sierra's.
What happend was my engine oil got a bit low, and i was driving at low speed bout 20km/h and my engine died!!! and i had to get towed home, we had a look around at the engine and found out that the cam locked up in the head, which was stopping the fuel pump and the dizzy fom working. while this happend the bottom pulley still span trying to start it and tore cogs off the timing belt.
I have since replaced the timing belt with a new one, with piston no:1 at TDC and set at 10 degrees on the fly wheel i also have all timing marks lined up and the rotor button is lined with no:1 lead.
But it wont run! It has fuel, air ,and plenty of spark but still wont fire and doesn't really sound like it wants to either. The engine has been recod 6 months ago, has brand new leads, plugs, button, cap and a bosch sports coil and was running fine before all of this happened.
All i want to know what is my next step and eliminate more problems, any help or advice would be great cheers brent

You may have the dissy 180* out... When the rotor points to No1 are both the No1 cam lobes pointing down and a gap between the rocker and cam?couped wrote:I have done a bit of a search on the site and couldn't find much info to help me out so i am asking you guys for some knowlegde as i am fairly new to sierra's.

How'd the engine oil get low if recently reconditioned?couped wrote: engine oil got a bit low, and i was driving at low speed bout 20km/h and my engine died!!!…

Who did the reconditioning? Who does the servicing?

recheck your timing, are the crankshaft and camshaft keyways facing each other? ( crank keyway up, cam keyway down) is the dizzy timed to # 1?

Re: Engine Trouble in 81 SWB Sierra 1ltr
the crank key is facing up the cam pulley doesnt have a key way all it has is like 2 indentations and yes the dizzy is timed to no 1rustyvit wrote:What did you do about the siezed camshaft?couped wrote:

Cam timing is 180 out.couped wrote:-Currently the dizzy is timed to no 1
-Crankshaft keyway is straightup
-10degrees is set on the flywheel
-cam is in the middle of rocking on no 1 and lined with keyway
it sounds like it wants to start but backfires out the exhaust
The keyway on the camshaft is in line with the single dot and needs to face down towards the crankshaft keyway. Cam lobes need to be facing down facing down.
