Hmmmm - my new car
Hi all,
I may have to get a new username now - I have succumbed to the sounds of a V8 rumbling and a wallet emptying.... I bought a 4door today and will be picking up a 2 door Saturday with any luck.
May the 9" be handy and the repayments cheap. EFI 5spd Bar, Hiline 86 in good Condition. Picking it up over the weekend - may have to move the 80 into the backyard between trips to the panel shop for it....
Picks will be forthcoming as wil details on the plans and project....
Once I put pen to paper that is.....
Anyone who remembers my first attempt at teh project will have a fair idea of direction - except bigger...

Nah - gonna go maxi drive.
Happy with the 3.5 EFI setup on the car as is - going to to keep it stock for now till it gets chopped, locked and caged.
Will have a 2 door for wrecking after next week - Awesome 3.5 oncarbs and good 4spd and diffs and doors and bloodywell anything that aint bolted down to it!!!! This willl be fun..
Anyone want the 80 - its getting very negotiable.....

I don't reckon there is much on an old 2dr that can be transfered to a late 80's 4dr....
different heads
different axle assemblies
early rangie bodies bolt together...later models welded
different seats...etc. etc. etc.....
If I was you I would only buy the 2dr and use the $$$$$$$$$$$$ you are going to spend on 4dr to build a 2dr project.... easier to ute or bob...
and ofcourse, 2dr Rangies just look better than 4dr's

just in case you did not know this....
LUCAS IS THE PRINCE OF DARKNESS
the flapper type efi is sh1t
IF the windows all work, they will be slow and unreliable...
the central locking has a mind of it's own
the seats however are much more comfy than the 2dr's, and the dash is much better than the old one without the tacho...
The roof lining is a bonus...my '86 efi had a new headlining put in before I bought it..
The gas system is also a bonus as you will not need to rely on Mr. Lucas to get you home.

Techo question.
Running the non taper roller gearbox - what atuto type oil it needs - ATF or dexron2 or 3 or whatever...
Also having fun - the selecter at teh the bottom of eth shift lever(ball in plastic) has dissapeared into the box - going to remove that little bugger very soon.... Overall the car is great - hammers on premium bigtime....
Bring on the Roadie and then out with the 9"....

Righty o - then.... After RANUKI fixed my porridge box issues - and some bodgy electrics.....
Did the oils last night - got rid of allot of noises... Moreys in the engine and sloppy front diff, Dexron 2 through the gearbox twice, gear oil everywhere including the Swivel hubs... Gees its messy under cars - see why mechanics use hoists instead of driveways....
My Mech dude had a gander - only making metal in the front diff which is good - looking forward to doing the other bits on pieces pre Monday.... Which includes lift 2", offset rims and rubber(legal rubber at that!!!) and some more fixing of loose drivers seat!!!
Anyone know where you can get a pin for the seat - the side button lock (for seat adjustment) wont hold when you hop out of the car so the seat springs upward and forward about 2"?????? I may just weld for now....
Anyways - chop chop time due next week - more pics coming.....

LIfted, tyres on, more oil leaks found.
Went for RWC - oddly it needed leaks fixed.... Giveaway - the puddle that formed while the car idled out the front of the place. Bugger.
Car only needed 4 things - time to borrow and engine crane and get into it this weekend - anyone got one? Slab on offer for rental????
Anyways - camera shy for now - will get more as I go...

Should be a fun one - 75mm body lift will be interesting - will keep people posted on progress - doing Rear mains and seals, seals, seals this weekend.
Anyone wants these rims - see RANUKI - they are stock Rangie reversed numbers - custom offset.

Evan,
Mt waverley - the one's I'm running are 16 x 7's - Give Ben a call on 0416 046 844 for a quote on them - I'm sure he will be able toget them reversed for you!
Here's the close up... Anyone got an Engine hoist I can lend for the weekend? Maybe even 2 hands and a need for beer?

Standard Range Rover steel rims are 6.5" wide. Discovery steel rims are 7". The extra 1/2 inch of the Discovery one allows you to "legally" run larger tyres.
Les Richmond Automotive (Rangie Spares) sell offset Discovery rims to whatever specs you want. When i got mine (around three years ago) they were around $100 each (including offset and paint) but i think they are a fair bit more than that now.
