hey i am doing a bulid up, i have a ute with a 1.3 in it and i was wondering if it would go alright with 33s on it, with stock gearing.

33's on stock gearing with a stock 1.3 would be the epitome of the suck. Get some 6.5:1 transfer gears and maybe even some diff gears also and assuming your motor is in good nick you should be able to pull 100km/hr in 5th.

33's with stock gearing isn't a build up.
Don't learn to drive a car like this. Either learn on stock tyres or gear it right from the start. You'll destroy the clutch and make the car massively harder to drive.

everyone will tell you not to worry about spring over have a look at some of the rigs on here man gives you a good idea what you can do easily enough without going to that crazy extent.
when you look at all the american sites they are obsessed with it but for over here it really is not the best route.

spring over is good, IF you have had the car for a while, use hi-steer and WT diffs, use soft leafs no higher than stock and a locker,
i like SPOA, my zook is SPOA but most people on here are against it.... no idea why tho its a good mod if done correctly!!! a good person to ask is MUD_PIG_SIERRA, im getting a few tips off him atm.

Moph is on the ball here especially about the big torgue monster 1.3, take the advice and you'll be on the road to a capable 4by. I had my previous Sierra on 33''s for a little while, it had SPOA and no gearing, I couldn't get full lock as the tires would rub on the springs. I couldn't use 5th gear and I had to use Low range all the time and it basically felt like I was in 4hi. It looked okay and went through mud, but wheeling wasn't slow and controlled how I like it. Steering was getting on the heavy stage too, and im sure others can describe hitting ledges and the steering wheel being ripped out of your hands and spun one way or another too.Moph wrote:go for stability, balance, light weight and agility, not looks
a zook is all about keeping centre of gravity low, increasing compression-based droop (one side compresses causing other side to droop) and gearing it to make use of that massive 1.3L torque producing monster under the bonnet
You can make a very capable Sierra without SPOA, just remember if your doing SPOA and you want it done right there is welding making new spring perches, getting a proper high steer kit, longer brake lines and the list goes on. You can easily spend this money on good suspension, lockers, gearing instead and have quite easily a much more capable Sierra.
For now you should go through the Bible and search some more on SPOA and tire sizes as this question really is asked over and over again have fun

but anyways, 33's are huge !
My brother and I bought zooks for our first cars and learnt to drive with the little stock tyres. We grew out of them as the tracks got harder (and we got our P's).
I went to 235/75r15 muddies with no other mods and she went so well out drove all the tracks and many other bigger more modified 4wd's.
If you really want to modify your zook to run 33's I'd do what VR Rodeo mentioned.

Nope, you still need gears, even more so if you want it to work in sand - 31's add a lot of rolling resistance as well as messing with the gearing

as i run std gearing with my vit 1.6 efi and 31s at the moment.

I thought you had 1.0 transfer?
In any case, a 1.6 EFI swap is a fair bit dearer than gears, and once you've got gears you'll wonder how you got by without them.
It's not even a case of power making up for gears - it's off idle torque and consistent fuelling that's making the 1.6 work with tallish gearing.

hey thnk_again, not to disregard what everyone else has said but my first zook was a fairly bodgy build wt on 31s when i got it. it had lifted springs loong shackles some sort of auto locker locker in the rear and 7 ''rims with 31s. but no gearing.
i say it was a bodgy build because the tyres rubbed everywhere, firewall, bumperbrackets, front spring packs. but most of this can be rectified without a great deal of money.( correct offset rims, diff relocation, cut bumper brackets off, extended bump stops)
the point to my long winded dribble is that if you are only 15yo you can make 31s fit without a lot of cash. a sierra in stock form is nothing special off road or on road but the difference locked rear and 31s make is very good value for money (off road and posing) and if the budget is tight like mine was when i was 15, then gears can wait (especially with the aussie dollar being so low) but you will have to expect to loose 5th gear and ride the clutch a little more than normal. this is how i got by for 3 years and as it was it could go a stack of places a stock zook couldnt.
