front locker

Post by lukeash »

well just bought a new truck and its the first time ive owned one with f&r air lockers. so here is the question, we turning off the rear locker it makes the famous air locker sound. but the front one does not. now im 985 sure the front one is locking in and disengaging but makes no sound, is this a problem?

Is your front one wired in parallel to the rear ? As in you can't use the front one without the rear one being switched on? If so, do you turn the rear off before the front hence turning both of them off. Just an idea as that's how my last ones were wired up.

if it makes no psht sound i doubt its working. If its wired to arb specs you will need to lock the rear before the front will lock.

do the indicator lights work in the switches when you engage the lockers?

the psht noise is the air exhausting/venting to atmosphere, hence no noise no venting. if your sure the locker is working it may be stuck locked. if the vent hole is blocked the locker will stay locked, you might not be getting air to the locker either.

my gu dosn't make the noise as loud as others it depends were they run the exhaust lines , mine are running into the chassis . on my zook it is alot louder exhausting threw the solenoid with no run of lines . in the gu the compressor is attached under the drivers seat so the air exhaust is run into the chassis so as not to get the oil smell and if the seal goes the oil itself in the cab .

obviously if you have a vent tube the noise will be muffled, you can also fit a silensor and have no noise.

If you remove the vettube from the solinoid does it make a noise?

Does it have oil in the front airlocker line ?
this is a common thing with arb air lockers . my did the same thing but still worked . Pro lockers do not have this problem that is why i am chasing over. to the dark side

As giantracing said.
The rear locker has a lot longer length of hose than the front. So there is a lot more pressurised air to escape than the front.
Get a mate to turn the lockers on and off, stick your head under the bonnet near the solinoids, you should then be able to hear the air escape from the front locker solinoid.
Anything is possible, it just comes down to time and money.

Chris what difference does the hose length make? If the rear makes the noise with a longer hose the front should also. If you swap hoses front will be rear.

I run 85/140 gear oil and my 5 airlockers and 1 prolocker all have an exhaust noise.

If your unaware the release mech is spring loaded so thicker oil will slow it down.

I have done quite a bit of work with pneumatics and any un-silenced vent will make a noise of some description.

Oil in the line will bubble out the vent, it will be quieter but will still make a noise.
