Hey guys. Just doing the heads on an NJ 3.0lt (not mine, a mate of my father in law) as there is a lot of water going into the oil. Ran fine and no compression into the cooling system so i expected one or both of the heads to be cracked. From memory they crack between the cam journals) Spoke to the head re-conditioner today and they pressure tested up fine (does need new valves and lifters tho). The Gaskets were pretty ordinary looking but i couldn't see any signs of coolant flowing into an oil gallery.
So my question is, has anyone been down this road with the 6G72 heads and water in the oil? I'm putting it down to the gaskets, but i would hate to put it back together and there is a problem with the block. Not that i can see a cast block cracking before an alloy head..... Any advise on this subject would be great!

For future reference, it ended up being a cracked head which the Head machinist didn't pick up first time around. I ended up pulling the heads for a second time as i didn't think it could be a cracked block over cracked heads and got him to re-check them. It wasn't until he pressure tested them with the rocker gear bolted on that the crack appeared.
All's well that ends well. He ended up wearing the cost of a new head and gasket set but i had to do the job twice. So if anyone wants some advice on how to strip a 3.0lt, i'm your man as i could do it blindfolded now. It has inspired me to pull the front of mine down and do the timing belt etc while its still fresh in my head....
