Heat Sheiding
I am after some advice regarding heat shielding. After putting the Gen3 in my truck i get alot of heat coming through the floor and firewall. To the point where you nearly burn your hand if you hold against the metal floor after a long drive.
I have since added some sheilds on top of the exhaust pipes down each side, Just using a bit of 3" pipe split in half welded on top of 2.5" exhaust clamps and bolted on to the exhaust. This helped a bit but still gets quite warm (no air con either).
Is there any probucts available that can be either sprayed on or stuck on that effectivly reflect heat? Or is there something better to use for heat sheilds.
Don't wanna use that exhaust wrap stuff, i don't want the pipes rusting away.
thanks

I had the same problem after I done my conversion. I mounted my heat shields on the body along the firewall aswell as the underside if my floor. I no longer have any heating issues. the shields I used I sourced from a wrecking yard and shaped them to suit. Mounting the shields on the body alowws them to get hot before the body structure. I hope that this helps.

Only problem i have found with lifting the rear of the bonnet is if you do drive through any water you get all the steam commong out through the back of it fogging up the windscreen. And also the smallest oil leak will blow oil all over the screen.
This is commonly done on performance cars but generally its to lower engine coolant temps. It doesnt do much for heat soak around the exhasts.

I have a similar problem with mine. A mate of mine has suggested a product you can stick (screw) into place that apparently makes a huge difference. I'll chase up what it is and Tonka.
What is HPC coating? Is it expensive?

A pair of V8 extractors typically costs about $175 for coating plus freight each way. Very good warranty on this stuff too.

I personally haven't used this product but a lot of people tell me it is fantastic.

I have seen a product that sticks on, It is like a 3mm thick layer of bitumen type material that is sticky on one side and has like aluminium foil on the other. Don't know where to buy it from. My mate used to get it from the holden dealership, but he don't work there no more.V8 Middy wrote:I have a similar problem with mine. Not to keen on the price of HPC coating.
I also have stuff all room between the floor and pipes which makes it hard to get decent heat sheilds in there, So the stick on stuff i think would be the go if any one knows where to buy it.
I am also looking at a reverse bonnet scoop to get rid of some under bonnet heat out the top.
