we fitted one of the 4 x links today to the 80 series with 5" lift.. while it was getting done i was looking at how i would do the flip arm conversion.. the x link will hit the panhard by a mile... anyone know how to get around this or do i just relocate the panhard... not worried about legal as 5" and 35 tyres are illegal anyway....

ps it worked very well with notable difference even though the sway bars were still on...

Thanks for that .. it is interesting to see some trucks with really flexy suspension are kinda scary on anything but the ramp.

If your keen on doing the flip arm setup give Glenn a call. Glenn did the Flippa Xlink for Plowy and the xlink will clear the panard with a flippa.

some shots taken yesterday at a truck show this was using overkills buggy ramp wich is apparently steeper than a standard travel ramp so i was told ?

Hey Sneddo, how rutted out is it gettin now after all the rain and peoples just diggin holes everywhere.... :shock: I think if much more rain comes along it'll wash more of that creek away and be hard getting across at the bottom!!!

I actually pulled some dude out of there in a stocko 2wd hilux a coupla months ago... apparently was going to try to pick up a car wreck to go cash it in at the scrap metal place, god knows how he was going to get back out with that on the back...... he was well and truly stuck and had his mrs backing up in a early 80's laser to pull him out :shock: with a 10mm steel cable!!! :shock: :shock: not too sure there woulda been much of the laser left but sooooo wish I got there about 20mins later than I did!!!! :rofl: woulda been friggin hilarious!!!

Oppps, sorry for the hijack kids.... and moving on now...... :roll:

i seen this last group of photos some were else but there was one more in the set and it showed the front diff with x link on while up the ramp. also every other photo i have seen of this set up in use all seam to show the same thing. The x link at almost the same angle as the diff ?seams it should flex more or its not that much help. some better photos are need or i think it is not worth the time and trouble .

mate how many 80's or patrol's flex in the front with the standard suspension set up like that no matter what the lift is

the diff n radius arms are working [ in standard form ] like a gigantic sway bar and restrict any axle/ radius arm movent n stop any flex


what the x link does is allow the radius arms to move independently

while one arm goes up the other arm is comes down ,until it touches the diff as in the pics below , the bar /x link on the front only moves as far as the arms can go up or down [ so what is only minor movement on the x link gives major movement at the radius arm ]

the x link is basically the a new anchor point for the radius arms , they stop the diff from rolling forward and allow the arms equal up n down movement

to get the diff / arms to move more u then need to get of dobbin enginering a custom set of high arched radius arms to allow greater movement
as shown on page 3

This is running 14inch Auss Shox coilovers in the front and that left one is almost maxed out even though it looks like i'm on flat ground. :?

The rear end was restricting us from going up any further here (5 link) but hopfully that will be all sorted in the next couple of weeks. :armsup:
