I am just about to put a new stereo in my 8/87 HJ61. I found the original wiring harness had been butchered, so went to the wreckers and got another original head unit plug and 6-8 inches of wire. I have wired it back in, but found there are two wires left over that dont relate to the stereo..... as far as I know.
There is a white wire with a black stripe on the smaller plug harness, and a red wire with a black stripe on the larger plug harness. Anyone know what there are for??
Also, where is the fuse located for the stereo on a 60 series? its not mentioned on the back of the fuse cover....
Thanks in advance....

I looked up the electrical diagrams i have here and white/black striped is the power antenna. there isn't any mention of a red/black on this circuit though. It's probably an unused wire
as for the fuse, it's in the panel, but it's marked as 'cig' and should be a 15amp fuse.
edit. a closer look shows the white/black striped to be a common earth. this is a 84-90 toyota manual i'm looking at, which seems to conflict with the link above. what a mess.
however as long as you have an earth, two powers and speakers hooked up it will work.

Oldmate, thanks for that you are an absolute champion!! I though the fuse was under something else but I could not remember what it was.
Maybe the red/white stripe is the power antennae..... either way I will insultate the extras and just leave it how it is. I am pretty sure I checked the CIG fuse (only visually though, will check with a multi-meter tonight) if it is ok I might have a crook connection with the old harness.
thanks again, much appreciated!

Got it all sorted, the main issue was the power to the battery terminal. there is a water proof plug that was damaged and I was about to replace, had it un plugged..... reconnected and all is ok.
