Keeping the revs too low during the first couple of hundred k's, or keeping revs too constant (ie long country runs), can result in the bores glazing before this mating process has completed. This will result in an imperfect seal and long-term blow-by of oil / loss of compression / loss of performance.

1.3 with 31x10.5 mt/r's will sit on 100 pushing it, with 31x10.5 simex muds will sit on 100 easy (Dunno if all mtr's are heavy as #$%@ but mine sure are)
98 coily, stock 1.3, gearmaster reduction gears (10-15% in high 125% low), 1L t case. rev hard at 4000 rpm doing 100, used to be 3600rpm before gears went in, 31s should help out. 110 can be done just takes awhile and cant sit on it for too long or it starts to heat up.

another neat little trick is to have several rare earth magnets on the oil filter. That way all the tiny metal dust that comes off during break in sticks to the filter walls and not cycle throught the oil

good topic, mines a '92 swb, fiberglass top and canopy with a rear roll bar and front bull bar. stock 1300, just had the stock carby overhauled. 2" ome leaves and shocks, and nanking wide conquer lt235/75x15 on sunraiser rims, not sure the width, just barely rubbing off road.
on highway trips, i can get up to 100ks in fith gear- more if down slope, or tail wind, back down to 4th up slope or head wind, especially if loaded up, 90ks is a good cruising speed, when this motor is clagged, i was thinking of finding a 1600 toyota motor for it, although, im not sure how safe it will be on the road as these little buggers leave a bit to be desired handling wise at speed, but though small are virtually faultless off road.
i was wondering how others were getting along, my mates keep getting away from me in their jackaroo and pajero, better now ive installed the uhf cb, a lot more fun getting cheeky to each other, and pointing out turns and hazards.
6.5 - 1 transfer gears, 4.88 hilux diffs, on 32 mungrals. Revs its tits off, doing 80 k's!!!!!! My guess would be 4500RPM doing 100 k's! hehe, not to keen on trying that!! Needs the 35's real soon

Will sit on 100-110 without much worries, bout 1/2 throttle.

hard top. tired 1.3 6.5s wt diffs full zorst 32 mongrals. holds a real 100 no worries. can tow my trailer with camping gear and 7 jerry cans plus 10foot tinny and fishing gear at 90 no worries.
are the speeds people are giving real or what their speedo is telling them.

What's the best way to increase highway speeds on a 1.3l zook?
I am using mine less and less for hardcore 4x4 and more for camping/fishing trips which usually involve a few highway k's before I get to any dirt. I only put it into 4x4 twice last year.

Gearing, exhaust and carb or lighten it up etc.
less weight is cheap horse power, what size tyres are you running if they are large (ie 31's or bigger) wap down to a 29.
The dead set simplest way is a bigger motor ... I firmly belive that suzuki should always have put at least the G16 motor in the sierra.The difference is drivability between a 1.3 and a 1.6 is huge in my opinion.
I could easily sit on 110 with a 1.6 equipped 235/75 kumho wearing sierra ..all the way from melbourne to wangaratta up the hume, power to overtake even.
Thats with a stock 1.3 exhaust and intake.

nah i use it for a daily driver to and from work, but primarily offroad so its not a huge drama. i must admit whenever i can be stuffed gapping points and plugs, changing fuel filter and cleaning out the carby, it will hold the 100 for longer, but yeah, hills and my 1.0L dont mix well......
Yeah I'm running 235/75's she will sit between 90 and 100ks but is a dog up any hill. Just annoying on the way home from a weekend outing and you just want to get home.
As soon as I get time/money I'm going to drop in a 1.6 me thinks.
With the new turbo motor, will do 100k with my foot resting on it. Doing 4000rpm at 100k.
With the trailer an bike on uses about 1/3 to do 100... on 33's with 1ltr case... 1.3 NT stock diffs........ also only have 4th no 5th in my box

windows always down, 100 kph easily, approx 1/2 throttle, hills?? what are they?? none in townsville. 110 kph still easy. did hold 100 on the way to charters towers (sort of a hill, well, an incline anyway), more gas tho.

Mine will sit on 100 with around 1/2 to 3/4 throttle without any real problem at all (at about 3900rpm). On a good flat road it will hold 110 at 3/4 to full throttle with a small headwind with no real dramas too. Mine seems to be OK for a stock 1.3L!
Big hills will slow it down to 80 in 3rd gear while revving it's tits off - but it never really goes any slower than that.
Fitting the 6.5's was the best thing I have done to make it work on the highway. The 31's work great with them IMHO!
ps - the speeds quoted are GPS readings. My speedo reads 10kmh lower than it should with my current setup (i.e. 90 on the speedo = 100 on the GPS)

Transfer case gear set - TG = Trail Gear. 6.5 is just a reference to low range ratio. They reduce your high range too, about 18% reduction. This allows you to run bigger tyres by compensating for the increased tyre size. Plenty of infomation in the bible and by searching on gearing reduction.

Pedal 1/3 way on flat in 5th gear
1/2 - 3/4 on slight incline in 5th
Headwinds and inclines obviously do make it work a 'little' bit harder but it will still hold 100kph.
Have had it over 135kph (testing it after the original run in)…
Would not recommended this as it's a Suzuki Sierra not a Ford Cosworth Sierra!
Wouldn't mind gears in the near future to improve the driveability on and off road. But at the moment I'm more than happy

Great to see everyone suffers, or at least nearly everyone without a turbo 1.6.
1988 SWB 1.3 with Extractors, 4.6 R&P, standard transfer, 31s no body lift (still) no bar work either good to cruise at 100 about 3400rpm will do 120kph on the flat but noisy as buggery with the soft top so I mostly sit about 90, holds 90 ok up the Gateway Bridge in 4th.
My old hardtop SPOA, 32's and a 4.16 tcase, fresh 1.6 was clocked at 160 Kph on my GPS ... was not too bad .. saying that .. I only ever did it once is 80,000Kms.
I remeber driving back from work to get to the hospital (wife giving birth in an emergancy c-section) I had the stocker with a 1.6 up to about 150 (vehicle duarability was not high on my list of concerns at that point) on the Hume between Benalla and Wangaratta .. needing two lanes to stay in the road I backed off to about 130 .. better to get there a little late than not at all ...
150 in an otherwise stock sierra .. Is plain scary .. I was very motivated to go very fast .. I slowed down.
