100 series body onto 80 series

Post by bj on roids »

Would a 100 series body bolt onto an 80 series chassis?

What would be the major dramas?

Are the gearbox/t-case in nearly identical locations?

Radiator, aircon etc? Would have to be fairly similar right?

Don't know but all it will take is a tape measure and a bit of time to find out.

the chassis are different. 100 series is beefed up a bit more, and a bit wider. solid front axle and ifs chassis are different again.

could be possible, but the question is why?

The engineering b(RTA or whoever the governing body in your state is) to do it would be a PITA putting a newer ody onto an older chassis.

Generally they identify the vehicle via the chassie number. Which would mean the body would only need to comply to the ADRs of the chassie. Using a later model body is generally much easier than the other way around.

Interesting! Good point Ruff.

What would you do with the build/ADR tags etc?

From what i have heard. the chassis rails are identical, but the body mounts off the chassis are wider for the wider body..there are quite a few subttlties, main fuel tanks are thesame, but with different instrument holes etc...at a guess, id say plugs between 80 and 105 are different also...the transfer from a 105 is plug into actuator motor, where as 80 is 2 plugs on wires....could be a big can of worms....all i can say difinitively, is the 80 and 105 diffs are interchngeable if you swap the lot..housings and all...100 series rear diff is like a lux...semi floating...100 has completely different chassis.
