aftermarket temp gauge for GQ TD42

Post by dont_follow_me »

Hi guys

I am trying to fit an after market temp gauge to my TD42 GQ and it seems the most common thread on the sender units is 1/8NPT which won't screw into the housing where the original sender unit is.

Has anyone used one of these, they go into the top radiator hose

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 3DWatching

it seems that the top radiator hose is 40mm ID and they come in that size, so before I shell out for one, looking for advice if anyone has or is using something similar for their gauge

if not, what sort of sender will fit straight into the original spot ie VDO, Smiths etc
Satnav with Teretts, now thats funny....

What size spanner do you need to remove the original sender?
19mm or a 12 or 13mm.

If the 1/8 NPT sender you have is close but not quite fitting you may need 1/8NPTF (F for fuel). NPTF is also be whats called "gas" thread (i think)

if the 1/8 NPT sender is waaay to small for the hole in the thermostat housing you may need M12x1.5 (another size that nissan use)

hope this helps
