With that distance in mind I recon the heavier the better, Try a "welding supplies" store, the leads for an arc welder are heavier duty than battery leads and more flexable too.

The local automotive charges a testicle per metre !! thats why I went with the welder leads.

How about hacking up a nice jumper lead?
This is not legal advice.

both those thoughts had come to mind, although not sure if jumper leads can be found long enough, and joining it would only result in current loss... as for the welding leads i will look into it further... cheers...

stranded flexible cable can be bought very cheaply at the scrap metal merchant.
i bought about 15m of 50mm2 double insulated flex cable for $20 to make heavy duty jumper leads for a mate in the earthmoving industry.
also soldering is good, but if you know any electricians then get them to crimp the lugs on using 10 tonne hydraulic or hand crimper.
beware of hacking up jumper leads, 90% on the market are cheap shite!
i am in melbourne and if anyone needs help doing batt. cables or jumper leads pm me.

david ;)
