cracking down on 4wd mods

over here in west oz (perth) the cops are really getting stricked with 4wd mods, now the legal limit is 2" any more and you have to go to barbagelo raceway and pay some bullshit amount of money to do a lane lunge test at f####cking 110kmh .
and a dude i now that works for arb said his mate with a highly modified disco failed the test, he said it is near on imposible to pass.
how stricked is the law in the eastern states for modified fourbies.

It's not as bad as that.....that sounds pretty bad

As long as you have an engineers certificate for the modifications (not the bolt on stuff) it gets passed....roadworthied

my pajero has a 2.5" suspension lift and a 2" body lift , with nylon blocks and high tensile bolts.

I wouldn't have thought there would have been a problem with that. Is your suspension from a reputable company ?? They are the ones that need to do the testing otherwise they shouldn't sell it to you.

Does this new law of 2" mean that vehicles modified before the law came through are exempt......is this law only for new vehicles and mods ??

If so....then hopefully you won't need to go down to the racetrack to do the lane change test at 110kph.

Mind you.....I wouldn't want to even drive my Feroza that fast....it can...but it's not a racecar....its a 4WD

That makes more sense that how they do it in NJ, USA.

They put the rig on a table top and angle it untill it tips, but they catch it with a winch.

It says nothing about the real handling of the rig. So people where putting weights on the oposite side of the frame and passing it easily.

I would think this could be argued against.....Heck think of the posible remafications if someone wrote themselves off attempting their test - nearly a lawsuit waiting to happen...

Did you actually get pulled over yourself? Have you been made to do the test? This is the first I have heard of it, a lot of people should be a little worried if it is true... was thinking of doing a 2" BL too!

to answer bitsamissin question it was either 2" or 2.5" in the back i cannot remember, the front is craniked 2" with trimed bump stops.

hello westoztrooper i heard this info from a bloke i know at arb in osborne park. i think they are mainly targeting cars with huge lifts that stand out like dogs balls, not like our cars that dont look to obvious

I have heard about the lane change test as well. This is total BS. I bet most 4wd lifted or not would not be able to pass this test. I was told by licencing that if I change my steering to cross-over I would need to do a lane change test. This involves hiring the time on the track, a CAMS qualified driver and a engineer. Expensive!! And my 4runner would never pass. So I am stuffed :mad:

looks prettty beasty, i bet you dont have a problem with power.
a friend of mine is nearly finished a commadore v6 conversion on his pathfinder.
he has had a engineer look at it to make sure they are dong everthing properly.

I did an advanced driver training course in Darwin a few years ago that focussed on collision avoidance. I was driving an 80 series cruiser for Telstra that had heavy duty coils in the rear and progressives in the front.
One of the obstacles was to drive at 70km/h towards some cones and then swing hard sideways and back across to avoid a theoretical Volvo(with bowling hats on the back shelf probably) backing out of a driveway. I'll tell you what it was pretty hairaising at 70km/h to throw the 80 series sideways, not dangerous but it certainly made the body rock and roll a bit. The trainer was quite impressed with my handling of it but advised me that I would only have to do it once because it looked a little scary. I don't think I would have liked to throw it hard sideways at 110km/h, that would be plain dangerous .

What engineer is he using ?? Had my engine swap engineered about 6 years ago when I put it in along with the body lift.
