How are they compared to the old KM's grip wise?

I have not got them but spent a day in the Watagans with a 110 that had 315/75's km2's on. Bearing in mind that there were a lot of variables such as w/b, diffs and tyre size, I thought that they were ok, but not the leap offroad that I was expecting. Perhaps other setups in other conditions will work differently.

Yep I have them, I would say comparable to the STTs in the short time I have had them. I would still put MTZs as slightly better but will wait until I have owned them longer before a definate decision.

Sorry bogged! My Bad I had a bit of a look but only a bit, Have not been in this secotion for a long time.

Was going to buy a set of mtz as ffrom what i have read and been told there a great tyre, but i would like to give the km2's a run I have km's on my patrol and they have done around 85,000 kms so i think thats pretty good tyre milage.
How do the km's Compare to the km2's ?

You will ahve to wait a long time for an answer, I doubt that anyone who owns the KM2 has even done 10,000klm.

Mud: They seem to go ok the sidebiters arent much chop, the treads are a bit close so can clog up quickly a bit like the STT
Rock: Surprisingly quite grippy again the sidebiters are of absolutely no use, on par with the MTZ
On road wet: mine are still fairly new only done around 3k on them the grip well no sliding yet,
Dry they are on par with most of the new muddies STT, MTZ etc except they smoke up better than the others :roll:

I had the impression they would do that, they do look close together, but some tires are like that, until you get to bigger sizes...

its like comparing a 31x10.5" MT/R to a 33x12.5" MT/R The 33" is just that much more open.

Mine are 315/75/16 (35") so if they get worse in the smaller sizes its a real concern for mud especially.

when i saw them in person i got the impression that there less aggressive then what it seem by the pictures and talk on the web

yeah- looking at them you think they are a slightly toned down version of the Krawler, but when you see em in person, theyre really more of an aggressive version of the AT with a krawler tread pattern

Ive crossed them off my list- probably will get MTZ's again unless i can get a really good price thru a mate on STT's

The only review I've read was in Petersen's, and they ran the 42s on UA(might have been 40s). At that size you'd expect more void in the tread.

I think they see them as more of an A/T, BFG expecting you to buy a Krawler if you're 'hardcore'. Probably explains the bigger rim sizes being available earlier, to accomodate the mallers.

6 weeks old MTZ's wearing badly on GU wagon

Well have had the MTZ's (285/75 R16's) on for a little over 6 weeks and clocked up just under 3 thousand k's. The outside of the tread is wearing really badly on the front tyres already. They are showing the sort of wear that took 20 000 k's to show on the BFG muddies i had previously.

I have a 3 inch lift with 2.5 degree castor correction bushes, am slightly agressive as a driver but don't drive it like I stole it. I am running 38 psi all round following advice here on the forum (though the dealer said to run 32 all round) After reading many posts on here on tyres i thought that the mtz's were a better tyre for a daily driver on the black top than the bfg's whilst keeping an agressive tread pattern.

I had them rotated and rebalanced (already) at my mechanic yesterday and he reckons theres a big problem as they are wearing so quick on the outside.

So much for 80000 k guarantee, the way they are going i reckon they will be fu$%ed by 30 000.

Any ideas on what could be the problem?

Doesn't surprise me, mine don't seem to be wearing unevenly but I'm not happy with the compound. They are chipped and cut and scarred badly. They are rubbish for the $$$ I've spent on them IMHO. Was much happier with my Maxis Bighorns...

Why ask the tyre guy what to run them at and then disregard it? My MTZs wore great, I will probably go them again next time, I was really happy with mine. I guess it just shows everyone has a different opinion on tyres.

I laugh sometimes on tire threads, there 10 AWESOME and 10 FAWKT answers to every single one.. theres too many variables to get exact answers

Can somebody please explain how "wearing so quick on the outside" is a tyre problem, and not a vehicle/driver problem?

I suspect the issue is expectation. An expensive tyre like an MTZ is expected to be all things to all people - it won't happen.

I've had S/Ts, MT/Rs and (currently) STTs. Noise and offroad, I haven't noticed a significant difference. On-road, the S/Ts were wearing much better than the other two. Does that mean the S/Ts are the best? :roll:

my MTZ's are approaching 10,000kms old, and have barely worn at all- at the current rate, i'll get 80,000 out of them.

The rears are a lot worse than the fronts currently- but that is all to do with not having an LSD, having a very torquey motor and short diff gears on 31" tyres, which make it oh so easy to spin the inside rear wheel taking off around a corner- which is chewing the leading edge of the lugs.

so they've barely worn, but the rears are worn alot worse then the fronts????
