Camping supplies-Melbourne
My wife and i recently got married and have a bit of a kitty to spend. I was thinking plasma tv etc but to my surprise she suggested camping gear. Finally after 5 years of owning the truck she want's to go camping. So i want to go out and get a good quality tent, a fridge, table and chairs, kitchen stuff and some general camping gear.
Where is the best place to go in Melbourne for this kind of gear. The fridge i can get at cost but we don't supply much camping gear. Is there anywhere reasonably priced or is Ray's the best option?

if you're gonna start touring and camping it's not to late to come across the canning with us!!
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.
Rays only seem to carry cr@p tents, Anaconda has the better quality stuff in my opinion and Anaconda will also beat the opposition's price by 10%.
We saved around $100 when we showed a print out of Grangers Camping (no longer operating) price on Waeco fridges.
Regards Andrew.

If you can wiat for a bit go to the 4wd show and make some offers.
All the big mobs get rid of there gear there and are very keen to do deals.
Also Ive bought a lot off ebay where people use things once and never again, its sits in there shed for 12months and then they get rid of it and you buy it CHEAP!

Thats not completly true. There are bargins to be had a 4wd shows etc. I got a slight saving on a ARB compressor, ARB deflator and air line kit at Elmore Field days. Wasnt a big saving but it was a $50 off the total.
Just make sure you know what things are worth before going to any of them.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
Make sure you just buy what you need aswell. I have so much camping / 4wding gear that was a good idea at the time and now it just sits at home when I go away because either its a bitch to pack or I never use it. You could go nuts in a camping store, but make sure you get stuff that is useful. Some of the best stuff I have bought has been the cheapest stuff that I have got ideas off from others I have been away with.
IMHO comfort and conevenience make or break any camping trip.
The most useful things I have bought consist of the following:
* Decent Fridge (Engel 40 litre) including fridge slide.
* Outback drawer system in the back, easy to get to stuff you need quickly and easily.
* $5 collapsable step from bunnings to get into the fridge because its a little high on top of the drawers
* Black widow bin bag that mounts to my spare tyre (was about $50 at one of the shows). No more rubbish in the car or getting ripped apart by branches on the roof
* Southern Cross Centre pole tent
* Cobb Cooker - cooks a ripper roast everytime we go away.
* Cast iron Fry pan with a handle that folds in so its easy to pack.
* Coleman stove that uses small propane cylinders so you dont have to cart a gass bottle
* Spray fertilizer bottle from bunnings that you can lock on and wash your hands with etc using minimal water was about $3.
