Outback Challenge 2009
Is the Outback Challenge on next year, or is it suffering the same fate as the Alpine Challenge. I have checked the website but nothing is mentioned, it would be a shame if this event dissapears from the event calanders.
Zooks rock, i just wouldn't use any of their moving parts.
I do know they are having meetings and stuff with the marshalls from last year. I havent been able to get to one yet. And all I really know is the format will change slighty and has been reduced to 3 comp areas.
Which at this stage I think are Broken Hill, Poolamuca and Denian.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
Great to hear the event is on, heard different rumors, one being that ARB is no longer the sponsor. Having competed in both the OBC and Cliffhanger they are both different and in my opinion cannot be compared. One of those differences was the friendship built during the week due to being in a small group travelling around. Pity if the OBC goes to one or two properties as it start to take on the sameness of the Cliffhanger, in terms of structure. Odd also if you are running an event to limit the entries to thirty (30) vehicles, apart the management, I would have thought the more vehicles entered equals greater profit, although if you don't have the economies of scale then I guess less is better. Although not competing next year will be there to watch. All the best to Paul as he plans the event.
I was talking to Paul Yesterday, the new format sounds alot better & more social, with all media, officials, spectators & competitors traveling together in one group, The numbers have been greatly reduced, so this can happen efficently. I recomend that if you want in,,,get in b4 its filled up...

Only competed at the OBC once (Dave twice), but would say that one of the most enjoyable aspects was travelling around in a small group, like Rangie Racing said.... getting to know people, not just on the comp sections, but at camp too, the camaraderie, etc.
We did have some friends following our group as spectators and although we we were not able to camp with them it was cool to catch up and socialise on the Wed and Sat at Poolamacca. I also liked having Wed with the morning update on what was happening with the scores, hearing what had being going on at the other properties and then the mixed comp groups for the day, before going our separate ways again later.
But it was also a good experience to just be in the small group of competitors and group leaders / marshals at camp and out on the road, filling up in town, etc. - somehow that really made the experience special for me.
We would like to come out to the OBC again in the future and I wouldn't dismiss it with the new format, but I don't think it would be the same. The OBC had a unique format which made it special, so it would be a shame if that was lost for the sake of logistics / media issues. I guess those that enter next year will be able to feed back on that......
