Thinking of getting Navara Ute
Thinking of getting Navara Ute
Was wondering how good they are on fuel looking at 01 model or 02. And on how much cost is in modding them suspension and gearing wise? I have suzuki sierra (need decent highway car but do alot of 4wding) so yer dnt no much bout nissan's. And just any helpful advice on them.
hey mate.. i got an 03 model st-r in the 3 litre turbo diesel. done nearly 200 000 k's and no drama's. theres a few lift kits around for them but they're IFS so dont expect much more than a couple of inches.. fuel wise its excellent.. way better than my patrol and just as good power wise.
Hope this helps
cheers

the 98-01 maybe early 02 are the series one witch have the QD32 motor, which there's nothing wrong with ( i have one in my 98 ST) and other than fitting a GU2.8lt 100A alternator to it hasn't missed a beat, tho it is sensitive to crap fuel and will chew through it quite fast,
on the modding front there's Denco turbo kits for them suspension there's not much to gain but 3in is good and does 90% of the 4wd i do ( got around landcruiser park without the winch) probably the best thing is that D22's can fit 15" rims without scrubbing the calipers,
as far as cost, it all depends on how much you stop your self from buying stuff really

rear quarters are evil and must be punished with rocks
Read this first. Might change your mind if you plan to do some wheeling as you have said or at least make you aware of some pre-wheeling prep work that you need to do:

that ZD30 motor is a bit of a fragile beast isn't it compared to its predecessor that's almost bullet proof, but you have to take the good with the bad there, it's a mule of a motor, 750 to 2500 is where all the power is after that there's no more point to the throttle
rear quarters are evil and must be punished with rocks
Re: Thinking of getting Navara Ute
depends a lot on what motor it has in it. around that age they where still available with different diesels. 2.5/2.7 atmo/turbo, 3.2 atmo/turbo and 3 litre turbo.BrentE wrote:Was wondering how good they are on fuel looking at 01 model or 02. most powerful (if i remember rightly) was the 3.2 turbo.
the 3 litre (zd30) is close but those years had the problems with blowing holes in pistons. so ask for receipts on work done on the motor.
the old TD series (2.5/2.7) are fairly bullet proof.
other common fault is weak rear springs. they go flat even with medium loads.
Firstly Navara is a good truck on road and capable tourer.
First thing id do is a boost controler and 3'' exaust this should cost ballpark $500 fitted
Second the suspension kit; Check out Cal Off Road
3"lift is about $2500ish
definetly get the tierods and stearing brace
Third go easy on the right foot the front end is kinda fragile especially the front diff and transfer.
I havent had any dramas with the Engine as yet. and it swings my 34" JT2s easy
Cheers Mate

hay guys have read this thread and a few of the others about navs. im looking at getting a 05/06 mod probbly just the dx maybe str if money allows. i'm heading west next year as ive got a job on a cattle property. i need something reliable, good on fuel and comfortable. it will be staying stock as a rock apart from good tyers, uhf and probably a snorkel.
can you give me any hints to watch out for when buying one.
cheers tom

hey guys, just thought i'd add my two cents!
the old man traded his 00 zd30 for a 96-97 3.2 navara duel cab ute with a dts turbo kit on it!
after he got an exhaust, tune'd the pump and wound the boost to 9ish pounds, the think pulls like a champion!!
up hills it shits all over my tb45 on gas... in the same gear that is,if i drop back afew it's all over
it runs out of puff at around 3-3500,but pulls from 1500 odd!!
and still gets about 10-12l per 100km!
like any car, afew tweaks and tuning and they go well
