can any one post up a rough drawing on how to wire up a DIY daul batt system , i want it so that if the main batt is flat i can flick a switch to use the second to start but be isolated the rest of the time

But anyway.. What type of solenoid or controller are you wanting to use?
If you choose something like a redarc smart solenoid then it will automatically charge your second battery and has an override wire that you can connect a switch to for when you want to jump start.
