GV lift/tyre questions.
GV lift/tyre questions.
Hi guys, I'll post this here as i seem to have finally found a 4wd forum that has heaps of activity.
I recently picked up a 2004 2.5 manual GV. I wish to mod it a bit but nothing hardcore. I will use it as a daily driver and lots on the beach. Also there will be a some trips to the watagans (muddy forest) and around lithgow (quite rocky terrain).
I wish to lift it a bit and put bigger rubber on it.
I will just put the OME springs/struts/shocks on it (+40mm) and then larger tyres. Also to come will be a snorkel and sump protecting bash plate.
I have searched for the info i need but a few questions remain:
1. With the OME lift do i need anything else or is it just springs/struts/shocks. Rear prop spacer? camber bolts? or is that just for BIG lifts?
2. Tyres? Probably just stick BFG ATs on it. But what size. Stocks are 235/60/16. I would like to go to a 70series tyre. With the +40mm lift will 235/70/16 fit with no rubbing on the gaurds? I think that they will rub the chassis a bit at full lock but that is ok. I just don't want to cut or bash the body to make them fit. Will it all be much easier with 225/70/16 ?
3. Stupid question time. A snorkel. They way they are forward facing at the intake, doesn't rain go straight it when it is bucketing down? Or are they supposed to face down a bit not to suck up the rain.
cheers

Hi again
the ome is a good kit, you might need some camber bolts but you will not need a prop shaft spacer, 225/75/16 are a good fit and if you bend the 10mm tab under the front you will have no at full lock on no suspension lift
I still have not done the front of mine and im running 225/75/16s but i did lift the rear 4inches today and it has some nice flex
flex last week
and flex now !!!

www.outdoorauto.com.au - we love doing new GVs....
Thanks Tim.
Your GV is lookin good! Thanks heaps for those pics. Much appreciated.
How do you think it would go with 235/70 instead of 225/75. I probably won't need to bend the tab then but i worry about the width. I think (from all the pics i have seen) that the front will be fine. I just worry about the rear at full flex and the 235s hitting the gaurd, what do you think?
In those flex shots how close was the tyre to the gaurd on the other side.
BTW, of the top of your head, do you know if the 2006+ model runs the same offset rims?
cheers

I can see a number of solutions to the speedo issue.
Get a garmin or tomtom gps and use that.
Calculate the speedo difference and pop some stickers on your dash.
Follow a friend and record what speeds your speedo says and remember it/use stickers.
There probably is such a device as a speed correction unit but i wouldn't bother. Speedos are using under your actual speed so if you go up a bit in tyre size then you are correct. BUt if you go up lots..........
So for a 225/75 from a 235/60 you are 8.1% too slow. So when your speedo says 100k you are doing 108.1k. But my speed is about 3k under the gps readings (can they be trusted). So at 100k on the speedo it would be 105k in real life. I intend on using 235/70 which is only 6.8% out so i wouldn't bother trying to fix it.

Have a look at http://www.marks4wd.com/products/tyre_m ... ction.html
They mention the suzi jimni and i'd guess the GV uses a similar speedo. Give them a call. Let us know how you get on.

Luxury mini 4x4 :D
the part which is around the rail is just a 2-3 mm aluminum bent to shape with 5 mm bolts and lock thread nuts the other part i bought off ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Nagoya-RB-46-ant ... 240%3A1318
i drilled into the rail and then the bad thing that i did was i had to go through the roof but rust proof it and when the cable was in i siliconed the crap out of it have taken it though the car wash and left it out in the rain and did not leak
it is strong enough to drive with the antenna up as well
can sent you some detailed pictures and some drawings if you like
