Tough Dog Tuff Truck Challenge 2009
Nominations for TTC09 are NOW OPEN!
When you think of the city of Tamworth, you often think of the Country Music Festival, the cold winter nights and sheep – yes, lots of sheep. But let’s just forget about sheep for a minute… and think about Phil, well, two Phils actually…
After their stunning victory in 2008, will the boys in the mighty GU return for 2009, and try to retain their crown? Both Phil, and his navigator Phil, put in an absolute amazing effort at last year’s event, sustaining some major panel damage and hydraulic problems, but still managed to be there at the end of the weekend with the highest points score. Damage and all, they took home the coveted Tough Dog Tuff Truck Challenge perpetual trophy.
But can they re-write history and do it two years in a row? Or will Mal and Nick pip them at the post to steal the trophy?
And whatever you do, don’t forget Wayno’ and Shano’ in the Zook – they put in a fabulous effort to finish third and are keen as mustard to push the big boys again. All marques of vehicle will be covered in 2009, and there are plenty of contenders pushing their way up with the intention of breaking into the Top Three. There are some pretty serious competitors looking to improve on past campaigns... lookout guys!
So, if you’re keen to have another shot, or have yelled from the comfort of the spectator area long enough, you’ll need to get your nominations in NOW.
You can either complete them online or print the forms out and post, fax, or email them back.
There have been a couple of major changes for TTC09, mainly focused around ensuring the safety of all involved - including the competitors, the stage managers, and of course the spectators – so read the rules VERY carefully and make note of the changes with recovery points, window nets and windscreens in particular.
The other BIG change is that pre-verification is now COMPULSORY (hopefully at a location near to you) during Feb 09. This should spur you on to try and get your truck finished, as we would like to see a near-finished product. This will also allow us at least a month to be able to promote both your truck and yourselves to our audience and our sponsors – you can also use this to help YOUR sponsors to get the most out of us as well!
Another aspect is that verification is now a Stage, and the points will go towards each team’s tally. For more details on this aspect, refer to “Verifications Points for 2009” on the ‘Rules and Regulations, page on the TTC website.
But the BIGGEST change will be with the Mudrat’s Revenge-a MAJOR overhaul of this entire stage will be had, with the assistance of some HUGE earthmoving gear… and it will be like nothing ever seem before! Stay tuned for more details… we can’t tell you everything at once, now can we?
Additionally, there will be a revamp of the Frame Twister as well as changes to be made to stages such as the DPChip Devil’s Marbles (another 20 to 30 tonne of rock to be added) and Jaw Breaker.
So, if you really think you are Tuff Enuff and are up for the Tuff Truck Challenge for 2009, get your nomination in quick smart. Nominations close on 02/02/09 and all nominees are placed on the website in the order they are received (with payment of course), so get in early to be at the top of the list. Start your campaign to get yourself some votes – a bit of self-promotion never did anyone any harm – to ensure you get a run in this great event.
There’s even a good chance you’ll get a non-scoring crack at the tracks if you don’t make the grade – just for the hell of it!
Payments can be made by cheque, direct deposit into our bank account or via credit card. The full nomination fee is $880.00 (including GST), with a non-refundable deposit of $250.00.
So, get off the lounge and out into the shed… you’ve got better things to do than surf the net… you’ve got a Tuff Truck to build!
Oi! What are you still reading this for? Go on, get out to that shed… NOW!

TEAM BUNDY Number 6 on the nominations.
When the time comes any spare votes would be appreciated.

TTC09 Voting
As team nominations pour in for the 2009 Tough Dog Tuff Truck Challenge, the overall field is looking mighty good!
It’s great to see a nomination come in from Western Australia, and if you are a LandCruiser 100 Series fan, it will be the first to compete if voting goes their way.
Also, after years of threats to nominate, TTC09 has eventually received a nomination that could see a Mog entered. Other nominations include several new teams but there is also a good turnout from many battle-experienced teams.
Voting is expected to attract great interest and record of number of voting slips is expected. TTC08 saw a record number of around 1250 slips being forwarded and that number is expected to be blitzed in 2009.
Voting commences in January with official voting slips being available in the following magazines:
- Australian 4WD Action issue #129, which is on sale 14/01/09
- DirtComp Magazine issue #15, which is on sale early January
The official close of voting is 8th March, with the voting tally going underground on the 1st March. Successful teams will be announced via the TTC website on the 12th March.
Nominating teams that do not make the cut of the top 40 will still be in for a chance to have a drive of the courses. If one of the top 40 withdraw before the event, teams that did not make the cut will be able to replace a withdrawn competing team. However, your run will not be counted as an event entry and the points earned do not contribute to the overall competition – this is simply a chance for you to have a drive, if you’d like to.
See you there!

I dont think this is totally fair, If a team pulls out of the top 40 and you invite the team that came 41st to compete i cant see no reason for them not to be able to compete like any other competior.Pagie wrote:TTC09 Voting

I know it is a great oppertunitty to compete in this comp, but i dont see the reason that a subsittute team should be punised if a top 40 team pulls out.
Its not cool, unless it's got boost :)
has this been the rule all along, cause i cant remember seeing it any other year.Pagie wrote:TTC09 Voting

i think the rule is unfair, if you are a reserve you should be entitled to all prizes from points you earnt, imagine how pissed youd be if you happened to place first,
then again, imagine if you take the drive and destroy your truck you pretty much done it for nothing.
This hasn't been in previously, and is merely a trial. If it works, good. If it isn't successful, well, probably won't happen again. However, remember that there are "reserves" and "replacements". A reserve will replace a team that doesn't make it to the event and/or through verification to start the event. Their points do go towards placings and trophies, because they are then part of the top 40 starters.ozy1 wrote:has this been the rule all along, cause i cant remember seeing it any other year.Pagie wrote:TTC09 Voting

Replacements come in if a top 40 starting team is ruled out of comp but their points don't count towards the placings/trophies, otherwise there's no point in having a top 40 vehicle cut off. It is an opportunity for these teams to drive at TTC. If you don't think that is fair, remember there is no obligation for any team to have to take up the opportunity-it is their choice!!
Just having a look over the wording in the media release, it could be worded a little better. However, it is covered under "supplementary" rule 2.6 http://www.tufftruck.com.au/rules_regs09.html
For TTC09 we are going to offer reserve vehicles not selected in the starting 40, the opportunity to drive as demonstration only in the event of team withdrawals after the start of competition. They will assume the running order of the withdrawn team. Our aim is to give these reserve teams Tuff Truck experience and exposure. They will not be eligible for competition points or prizes. This will not be compulsory.
The "reserve" aspect has always been a part of TTC, just not the "replacement" or "demonstration" aspect-it's what is on trial for TTC09.
