How are we all today?Have just seen the light and sold the yota and moved on to a 88 GQ so i not sure if its been posted before but ill ask anyway and see if any one has any suggestions on bracke upgrades? Cheers...

hey m8 i got a 88 gq shorty i upgraded my frount brakes to the later model brakes off a 4.2 injected petrol st model with twin calipers + wider discs. pulls up 37 treps good and all bolts straight up :D

Cheers mate!!! went and got a set and as you said every thing bolts straight up and super easy to install and the old girl pulls up better then ever. thanks again...

If you want the best "straight bolt on" brakes the 4.8 petrol GU's have the biggest brakes (disc's and calipers/pads) of all the Patrols. Youd need 16"+ rims though
I'd steer clear of slotted rotors too.

GU brakes dont bolt straight on to a GQ you have to change the whole front diff housing to use them

I put a GQ disk brake rear end under my old GQ, but you had to change the whole thing as the housings are slightly different width from drum brake to disc rear ends, and there's a spacer block ibn the diff too apparently to sort the axle lengths out.

Thats what I did. Havent had a chance to test them yet. Car is still in bits.

is there much to be gained from td42t brakes from an 01 patrol to the 4.8 brakes?

well theres 1 more inch in rims to start with if you have 15's now they wont fit under the 4.8's brakes. dunno how much more braking you will get tho?
