rear spring hangers/mounts
rear spring hangers/mounts
ok i have an mq/k swb
the rear shackle goes through the chassis
now just a thought ppl put extended shackles on yeah
my mq has the bent type shackles
could you in theory make a new spring hanger/shackle point that sat in line with the existing one so it mounts underneath the chassis
so in theory using normal length shackles but still getting that lil bit of lift
is it possible would it work etc hopefully i have made sense lol

i am looking at doing similar...i will also have the shaclke mount 20mm further back to give a better shackle angle...i have 2" lifted springs and snake racing extended shackles.
see here:
front will use a new crossmember below chassis rails and bolted with shackle mounts 20-25mm back from originals.

my rear shackle the top goes through the chassis
i was thinking of making the new hanger but i have not pulled mine aprt to see how it fits i am guessing its a pipe of some sort
was thinking of just changin it so its the straight shacle instead of the bent shackle type
i spose i would have to see an mq with diff shackle mount

Stokedapollo if you want to look on my build up I have a photo of the rear hanger I made for my MK, I used my original shackles but you could use extended shackles as well, I used larger bushes which should give more flex than the Nissan bushes. I think from memory the bushed are from a Toyota set.

I have had this running on the road for some time now and it has worked well.

Stokedapollo a SWB is affected more so than a LWB with the angle of pinion to the tail shaft, I used the original shackles from my wagon, I could have used a set from the utility as they are 10 centimeter longer which is bugger all in the scheme of things.
I have had little affect on the handling of my Nissan other than it is about 35 centimeters taller than before, this is about the same lift I got out of the front by changing to the lighter engine.

The higher you make the vehicle, the vehicle become less stable. But I have had little affect on my Nissan, but I do notice the added height on sharp corners at high speed.
As for the pinion angle from what I understand it should be close to parallel to the output shaft of the transfer case, otherwise you will get vibrations or extra ware on the universals. By lifting the suspension you are changing these angles. You could have to use caster wedges to bring the angles back to where they should be.

As I said I think the bushes are from a Toyota, they don’t come together as the mount is wider than Toyota, so I cut one bush down to make up the difference (three bushes per side). I just took the bush down to my local steel shop and got a short piece of pipe that was a tight fit for the bushes.

It should as the bushes are a fair bit thicker than the Nissan bushes, the shackles can now flex more than the factory setup.
I have found that in my Nissan it seems to work better than before, but I do need longer shocks to get the full benefit of the modification. This is one of the jobs on my to do list.
