body lift on j-top + tyre choice..finished pics up pg2
what work would i have to do to put on a 3" body lift kit i know all the ins and outs of how to replace the mounts ect... but is the steering shaft long enough and is the fuel filler neck long enough... will the car be unstable with such a body lift...or should i just go 2" and play it safe....i plan on putting 33 or 34 or 35 inch tyres and have to sort the lift soon..
the tyres i was really thinking of are maxxis 285/75/16 i think their 33s am i right
ill cut the bumpers ect if i have to im not worried about that to run the tyres i want...also i have put up a pic on members rides are my wheels good enough to run the tyres i want or should i go with sunrasias or something
getting the lwb springs this week and already wound the torsions and cut the bump stops got the bolts and the shims for the ball joint flip to do sometime soon
also does any members sell the bod lift blocks on here that i could pick up in the sydney area or get them posted to me asap..
ps.. im aware this topic has probably been covered a million times but i done a search and nothing came up...
thanks for your time boys and girls.

if getting 33s, flag the bodylift all together. its unnecessary. how wide are your current rims? if they are 16x7 you can probly use them but id go for 16x8s. if wanting 35s, chop the guards. if your not prepared to chop the guards, do a 2"bodylift.
i had 33s on my jtop with no bodylift, then i did a 2"bodylift to fit 35s, now i want to take the bodylift out and chop my guards. go figure.

im fairly sure their 16x8 so i can fit 33x12.5 or is it 10.5 as it is?
at the moment its got 235/75/16 on it
did anyone have any problems with running gear with 35s on it...
im very hard on my little jtop in the bush and dont want to keep throwing too much cash at it...
ill chop whatever gets in the way..hahahahaha.

235/75/16s? you will notice a drop in power going bigger. you currently have 30s(i think). 35s you will want more power and you will probly start braking rear axles. if you get custom axles made you will just end up moving the weak poing inwards to the diff head. cvs should be fine for a while, just dont keep your foot up it while the fronts are in the air.
33s will get you where you need to go for now. when they wear out look at a set of 35s. you will have learnt how to drive with the extra grip by then.

yeah they look like about 30s and even they have gotten me eveywhere i want to go with alot of fun slipping and sliding and swearing just not good enough through the big mud puddles and i also want that extra clearance as i have been bogged with crossmembers and diffs botteming out trying to go through ruts that have been eaten away by some big tyres/4x4s so dont wanna be stuck anymore and dont want to be blowing axels and cvs left right and centre...
i usually let go when im in the air as a force of habbit iv had plenty or high powered cars before getting into 4wheeling and anytime i catch air i just let go it seems like for that couple of seconds your in the air its kinda peacefull then whammo...you cant wait to see what youve broken...
ok thanks for the advice you have never given me bad advice so i will take that into account... so ill probably go half way and get 34s
so are 285/75/16s actually 33s?
power is also an issue for me as i feel that its a bit low on power but compared to my mates 85 4runner on 35s thats a 2.4 carby or somrthing my paj is a ferrari..

depends on tyre type
depends on tyre type(manufacturer),i had a look a few different manu and ended up putting 33" on that are actually 33",some say 33" but are 31.8 or 32 when u read up on them
Yes to answer you question, a 285/75R16 is roughly 33, usually a tad bigger than the same make of tyre in 33x12.5x15
If you go 33 from 30's you will really notice the power

ive got both johny 33s and 2'' body it makes it easier to wash aswell with the body lift and heaps easier to get the g'box and transfer out aswell could get to the bolts easier lol, but 35s fit they do still rub on the guards abit on full travel but an ifs paj dont have much flex really. but im havin a great run on these 33s.
j-top
its a v6 3L petrol i think its a bit down on power from 15 years ago but still runs fine i think i will just do a 2" body lift too for extra clearence/ departure anges and like pom said make it a bit easier to work on...
where in sydne can i order a set of lift blocks or buy the materials to make some?

i thought the same thing when i first got my J-top.jonnyjtop wrote: so ill probably go half way and get 34s
problem is where do you find 34s?
34" JT2s are practically a 35 anyway

yeah i think maxxis make a tyre around 34s i checked out their website and i think in buckshot mudder they do a size close to 34s also was brousing ebay and saw some silverstone mt117 or something they were 285.75/16 they looked pretty agressive and they might do for what i need them for...
any people have any prefrences between the two...im not looking at spending big money and to be honest wanted to do it as pocket happy as possible...

i have the mt117s on my j-top and they are fine for what i used to drive..
and for $200 a corner i couldnt go past them.
cant comment on the maxxis tho.

are there and pics of your truck in members rides id like to see how it sits?
thats a good price i wouldnt mind a set. i just have to decide what i want and my mate can order them for me through his tyre shop the ones off e bay are definately over priced i think.. just got the idea of them from there.. are they 33s or 285/75..
i just bash around the bush and stuff no touring or anyhting so i think they would be an excellent choice

ok guys just afollow up on what iv done so far iv fitted lwb king springs that i found at a wrecker it raised it at the rear a bit more than 2 inches as they are beefier than the std lwb ones im pretty happy with the result with the torsions crancked up except...i took it for a test run and over speed humps that i flew over to test it seems to dip a bit in the front nothing major but i noticed it i hope this does not affect the off road abilities at all or i will have to look into some h/d torsion bars that may help a bit with stiffness in the front....?
i ordered some buckshot mudder mt-754 in 285/75/16 i initially wanted the silverstone mt117 sports but my tyre dealer hooked me up with a good price so i cant really complain they will be here at the end of the week...
also headed out to snake racing and sorted myself with some 50mm body lift blocks that will probably be installed tomorrow.....
so far im happy with the little build up so ill post some pics when im done..thanks guys

wacko....too late iv already spent today doing the body lift.....ill see how i go with it...also if its not too much trouble could you look at my photo in the members rides page its on the last page and look at my rims are they good enough for 285/75/16s they look to me that the offset is not big enough and they seem to sit in" the guards too much i feel that i should step down to 15 inch steel wheels with a bigger offset off a cruiser or patrol will 15s clear the caliper or ill go back to 16inch steel wheels or will they be ok once i put the wider tyres on there making it a bit more stable....? although iv ordered the tyres i can still change my mind on them as i want whats best for the truck not the tyre shop...
i cant tell if your rims are the right width or anything sorry. take it into the tyre store and get 1 new tyre fitted up to on of your rims. put it on, and see how it fits. if its completely off they should tell you there. id also jack up one side to make sure your scrub radius is still going to be ok with them on. just take a good look around the tyre and make sure its not hitting anywhere. with all the lift you have done id say it will be fine tho. where are the pics?
if you drop down to 15s, only get crusier wheels. im not sure off the offset, but when i ordered mine i just asked for wheels that fit a 70series crusier and they work mint. a mate tryed the 15s off his safari and they didnt fit, so id be hesitant getting safari wheels. in saying that i had some 15x7 (those goldish steel) factory GQ safari wheels on mine for a while.

i know it looks "girly" at the momet with them rims but i decided to order 16x8 steelis in black with a patrol offset so they stick out a bit i decided there is not enough rim sitting out the guards also kinda want 35s now that i tryed one on today at my mates place ....but as suggested by many ill see how i go with the 33s for a bit then ill see if i decide to step it up to 35s or bigger...ill post more pics up after i do the tyres tomorrow ill also be adding some clarks rubber special wheel arches, spotties all across the roof and ill custom make a propper front bar and mabe a custom rear one too....i want it to look tough..not clean
ps will not be going ahead with the ball joint flip i dont think it is a very good idea thats just my opinion....

why did you decide that?jonnyjtop wrote:ps will not be going ahead with the ball joint flip i dont think it is a very good idea thats just my opinion....
its a good idea your getting 16x8s i reckon.. should look good with the tyres on man.

yeah thats if the tyres ever get here was supposed to be yesterday then today for sure now its tomorrow for sure!!!
the ball joint flip i can see the theroy behind it and it all makes sense and stuff i just have a feeling that the way i drive it will break i looked at the bottom or the arm and to me it looks like it wont sit flush on the underside making it weak i think ill probably end up doing it once i see how little downtravel i have in the front when i go offroad but for now im happy

oh yip. i was getting wheels in the air when i had IFS and the balljoint held up to everything. i never even got around to puting the 10mm bolts in. but again, if your happy with it, sweet, see how it goes. if it aint broken, dont fix it.

thats right if it aint broken dont fix it...hahha its when you start touching too many things you start to get problems tyres should be here on monday now so still havent been able to test it off road....too see what else needs to be done i also think i have to set rid of my leaking electric shocks and replace them with some normal shocks these ones seem to have decent travel for standard shocks but they are stuffed snd the car is driving very sloppy....ill have a look around i know someone at ngk/kyb and see what they have to say
tyres still not there? how slack.
your mate at kyb, could you see if there is a rear shock with bout 2" more length than standard as thats what im after and if i can get a part num it will be easier than going thru all the catalogs at the local shock shop.

yeah spewing they kinda stuffed me up because im back at work this week was planning to go wheelin for a couple days while i was off...cant go as it is the tyres are bald as..
it probably wont be for a while for the shocks as i have to go see them their office used to be next door to me but now they mooved i have to go visit...the last time i spoke to them they only had standard pajero ones.. they make a special 4x4 shock that you can get that are longer shocks (forgot the propper name) but they dont make them for pajero...any idea if shocks are interchangable with any other 4x4 eg:patrol or 4runner landcruser ect.
cant you put a set of coilovers in the rear too..you probably couldent be bothered but you come this far might aswell do the rear too?? or is it better the way it is...
