Just want to put out an idea i have and get some feedback.
I have been doing wiring harnesses for ls1 V8's for a while now, And have also done a few full re-wires on some of the comp trucks, And am looking to expand my range of products.
What I am thinking of doing is a full plugin, 'comp truck spec' wiring harness. This would be done on an exchange basis, Where you send me the wiring harness form your truck, And i send back a new one. (i need the old one for the plugs)
At this stage would be looking at doing them for the GQ only, As this seems to be the most common truck used for competition.
This would be a harness to replace the factory wiring, And would not include the accesory wiring like lockers, Roof lights, bilge pumps etc etc. This may be done as a seperate harness later on.
What it would include is a new fuse / relay box mounted up in the glovebox area out of the mud and water. Headlights wired through relay's to the original switch. Wiring for one set of spotlights on bullbar.
All roadworthy items including indicators, stop/tail park lights, Hazard lights, wipers etc.
Option of either the orignal cluster for speedo, tacho etc and aftermarket gauges for water, oil tacho. Or full aftermarket cluster.
Wiring for your specific engine. (or can just provide a plug in harness for engine, If you are using aftermarket management, V8, or whatever)
Wiring will be done to meet CAMS specs for class 8 race trucks (ign kill through kill switch, etc)
All wiring for conveinience items like windows, A/C, interior fan would all be deleted. would replave factory fuseboxes in kick panel and near battery that just fill up with mud.
The Advantages of this harness are mainly reliability and ease of repair.
Basiaclly if you do have an elec problem All the wiring in the truck is simple, and it all does something (not like some of the bird's nest wiring you see in some cars). More reliable bcause you don't have relay's fulll of water.
As mentioned i have alread done the wiring for several top comp trucks, Ian and heath (team assasin), Will neilson and chris, brian and sheety, And all have been happy with the job, And i am sure they will back up my work.
Price for these harnesses would be around $1800 to $2000, With the biggest difference in price being engine option.
I have heard of people being quoted up to $8000 for similar sort of job.
Would be looking at doing these in the next couple of months.
