Not 100% sure it's a FJ. But I am very sure for 2 reasons - the silver plate on the firewall passenger side says "FJ45", 2, it's 1969, according to RedBook only the FJ45 was available in the ute shape then.bad_religion_au wrote:engine number. the first digit or 2 should tell you (H's start with H, 2H's start with 2H). their on the drivers side halfway down the block i think for the diesel that should be in it)
all Fj's are petrol, however, Hj45's were diesel (exactly same shape). you sure it's an Fj? even so, it's not a hard swap
Not necesarily. According to Wikipedia, HJ45 wasn't launched until 1973 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_FJ40 ). My ride is 1969. it also has the original silver plate on the firewall that says FJ45. So my guess is that it's had an engine conversion later on in life rather.shorty_f0rty wrote:thats an diesel injector pump, and it looks like a 2h.. I reckon you've got a HJ45..
GeneralFubashi wrote:I agree, thats either a late model petrol interior, or a changeover period diesel. It has the foam dash, but not the big black metal dash insert with digital clock? Late model door trim and door handles, but dash mounted handbrake (early model). Pre 78 headlight facia, 60's early 70's side mirrors, 70's-80's wipers/windscreen surround. If i had to guess, id say its an early 80's petrol cab with really early mirrors and a slightly earlier headlight surround. Engine and gearbox are mid 80's. The ute version didnt come out with the 5speed either - ever, so at some point the gearbox at least has been changed. Most likely engine and gearbox at the same time. Might want to check that the handbrake is even connected. Early models came with the handbrake drum bolted to the transfer case, late 83 on they put handbrake linkage to the rear wheel drum brakes via steel cables. If they replaced the gearbox/engine, handbrake is sometimes conveniently forgotten.
