OK, just got a new welder, and was wondering what everyone else uses.
It's not the latest and greatest but it welds :D

I'll start.....

You should get a better grade fan fitted as the procraft series is prone to cooking boards. The workshop series is a far superior machine.

I've had it for about 4 years and use it for work and home and never had a problem, one of my mates has 3 of them and uses them for factory maintenance and shutdowns, and he has never had a problem either ;)

We run migomag, kemppi, cig and wia at work. The info I gave on the unimig pro series came from the welder repairman (cant remember company name at mo) and he said he does heaps of repairs on pro series from failed fans causing board failures. A new quality fan is cheap insurance.

Thats the same one I almost bought, only it was the 200 I think. The only reason I didn't end up going with it, was the salesperson said "We don't stock them anymore, we had a few come back." I seem to think that the profit margins prolly aren't that great, or something like that! Especially since he ended up selling me a chinese one.......It works great for the price though, would have loved to be able to afford a WIA or something similar. :bad-words:

I've got a Migomag 215 like the one above. We also use Migomags at work. I was doing some welding the other day with a Unimig (not sure of model) at a mates work shop the other day and I couldn't get a good weld out of it so i took it home and welded everything up with my mig.

The other guys there also hate the Unimig (ex panel beaters) and also think the Migomags leave the Unimigs for dead. After using both I see what they mean. The migomag actually makes a bad welder look like a pro.

For someone who doesn't need to weld every day I'm sure the Unimigs would be alright and there pretty cheap compared to the likes of Migomag but if you want something to last years that you use everyday then I'd go a Migomag. The ones we have at work are over 10 years old and are constantly being used and they never miss a beat.

They would be easily the most popular choice amongst Smash repair shops.

Cheers Mick.

Its the price difference between the 2 which makes people get the unimig

X2....could not have said it better myself. the migomag is also good in the fact that it doesn't have knobs or gimmicks you don't need. a few mates of mine have used various welders, then saved for a migomag and you can't wipe the smiles off thier faces!

When its time for a new mig I'm trying for a WIA, or at least a migomag or lincon.

I have a SIP 215 AUTO TURBO bought it when i was a 1st year in 1997. Its ok and does the job but it is a cheap welder and as stated above there is no comparison between cheap and quality.
