Re: incab air intakes ?
how are you gettin it into the cab? I thought it was a no no to cut holes in firewall?spamwell wrote:i plan to run an in cab air intake in my sierra as an alternate option to snorkels which i do not like the looks of on sierras.'

My snorkel on my zook with the head facing backwards is noisy as hell with the window down and I've had to drive with snorkel hooked inside the window once when I broke the mounts (DIY snorkel with flexy tube bend ) And it was so noisy I couldn't hear my mate yelling telling me it was too noisy.
More Suzuki parts going to the big Suzuki Heaven in the sky!

Get a snorkel!!!!
Negatives-----------------what everyone else has said + induction roar inside the cab. Years ago (25 actually) a mate had a mini cooper with a single 42 DCOE weber that was in the cab.
Bad move!! Very impressive though at night when the flames came out the carb!!
SOme things are WORTH being different about, some aren't.

an engineer will laugh at you, and so will the cop's giving you the defect.
I was actually answering boggeds statement regarding holes in the firewall.
and yes i have a 4" snorkel punched through the firewall running between my navigators legs under the seat fully engineered, however it does exit through the back wall to pick the air up from outside.

innovation is better, better is faster, and fast is all that counts
hey internet forums are all about sharing, but sometimes I wonder how much people have had to drink or smoke before they share, myself when Im drunk I ramble, but rarely come up with pearlers like this.
Could you imagine windows wound up, heater on recirc and engine doing 6000rpm, it would try to suck your brain out through your ears lol....if you had the required equipment, I think his is a soft top but just imagine some one else trying this.....

the Malaysons (yes I know I cant spell) That came over to do the 07 Outback Challenge, not only had the snorkle in the cab, they also had more than 1/2 of the turbo in there as well.. we thaught it was so they could cook up road kill on transport stages.

Back in the early 80s I met a bloke from the Range Rover Club of Victoria who had an alternative air intake inside the cabin. For deepwater crossings, he would hook his engine intake up to the tube in his firewall, and the engine was sucking air from behind the glovebox (from memory.)
It worked for him.
It worked for him.
With the air intake inside the cab get your navy a bottle of NOS and a squirty bottle of petrol. At the right time he could squirt the two into the intake If he could get a ratios right you could have a very cheap nitrous set up.
Anything is possible, it just comes down to time and money.

My trucks intake is behind the drivers seat up near the roof.It sucks air from out side. But there is only a sheet metal box that holds the air cleaner inside the cab with vents to the outside. And yes there is just a little bit of noise. From the air filter box the intake pipe drops down under the floor and across to the motor.

Hybrid rover ute. Isuzu diesel. Custom suspension. Winch. Snorkel etc. etc.
I agree. There's a few lines at different angles along the front guard, and the snorkel doesn't follow any of them, and it doesn't really follow the windscreen either. It may be cheap and effective, but I think it looks exactly like a cheap, tacked-on afterthought.spamwell wrote:yeah i am just really picky lol even that is horid to meDavePatrol wrote:hay spamwell i don't like snorkels much, but i thought something like this dosent look to bad.
cheers scott
theyre expensive, but safari snokels look pretty good on zuks... i'd ideally like to have mine mounted on the passengers side though so it doesnt interfere with my vision... seeing as ill be goign EFI and snorkel at the same time (next year most likely) it shouldnt be tooooooo hard to get it to work, biggest issue will be the extractors heating up the air box if we can make it fit over there.
The worst thing about censorship is ███████.
Many years ago I had a "through the fire wall" style snorkel in my swb L/C, 400 cubic inches @ 5000 rpm is VERY LOUD,
and if you do the math it moves a lot of air, I was forever pulling the contents of my glove box out of the air cleaner
It worked fine but very intrusive.
Peter.

snorkels on sierra's dont look right to me either for some reason, I did see photo's of one a little while back, I think it was an ex grimbo lwb that was up for sale??
someone might have a photo floating around, who-ever done the snorkel got the lines spot on.
