Im the new owner of a u900 - 406 and want to convert it to rhd to get it reg in Vic. It cant be reg even thouigh its over 25 years old because its over 4.5 t gvm making it a light truck... they have also told me I cant reg as tractor.... not really sure why.....
Anyway has anyone out there done this conversion as I would be interested to see how you got the pedels to fit.... Was also thinking of 90deg boxes and solid rod to move steering wheel across in dash board.....
Any thoughts....

God gave us grinders and hammers to make things flex......
I dont know if this works in VIC, but in NSW they can be rego'd as long as you get them engineered, which may also mean a few other things to be done, but you dont need to convert them to RHD (its been done with a 416)
From memory there is no '25 Year' rule, the vehicle needs to be Pre-ADR which is at least 30 Years old.
AFAIK there never was a RHD conversion kit for the 406/416. The later SBU (u1300, U1700 etc) series did have RHD conversion kit's so you MAY be able to shoe horn a RHD conversion kit from say a U1000 into the 406. Although expect to pay big bucks. Probably more than the truck itself. Athoug this does not solve your pedal problem.
The SBU Series had the same footwell drivers to passengers side so conversion was easier.
I cant remember what the floor of the 406's look like, but the 404's and 416's have different footwells from Driver to Passenger's side so you will probably need to do some surgery on the cab to enable the pedals to go in.
It may be easier to see if it can be rego'd with a engineers certificate.
