hey guys
I have a 02 GU 4.2TD and i keep getting water in the fuel. I have had the tanks dropped and fuel lines and pumps done, all filters are new and I have vacuumed and pressurised both tanks.
I am running a secondary inline filter as well.
I get fuel from caltex and have had the fuel tested from specific dates that i filled up and got "there is nothing wrong with our fuel from the filter inspections undertaken" from caltex.
can anyone help me, its been going on for ages and its doing my head in

try filling up at different locations for 3-4 tank fulls.
you have a locking cap on it? Not someone out there that hates u?

I have filled up at a few servo's, yes i have locking caps this is why im confussed.

Get some of these P/N: JM-3764, Shell water detector, we use them all the time to detect water in Helicopter fuel cells. Take them to the servo or whatever and drop them in a sample, you'll know for sure if there's water in the fuel.
Most G.A airports I guess you cound buy it from the mechanics, 1 tube of tabs will probably be about $10 ($80 for 10 tubes from Shell).

it is a little bit muggy in brisbane, but i dont think it would be muggy enough to cause any problems.
I have only just had the fuel tanks dropped and cleaned the secondary tank and replaced the main tank.
I have reported the problem to caltex and they have told me that there is no fault with the fuel as they have tests and filters that they can trace back to specific dates.

This may sound stupid but have you checked your connections from the steel lines that run from your tank and get connected to rubber lines under the bonnet?
From memory there is 3.
It is possible that one of them has jumped off the steel connection, maybe the return line? I think all 3 point upwards too (Right near the front right tyre), with a bit of wet driving a few drops could set in.
Have you noticed when you open the fuel cap there is no surplus pressure anymore?

although i think when i got the tanks dropped by nissan, they 'should' of checked the connections.
could there be anything with the motor that would cause this problem?

But where do you notice the water?
In the fuel tank? Fuel line?
I can't see the motor having anyway of putting out any sort of water into the tank throught the lines.
Maybe just check for crossed lines, even make sure the window washer rubber hose isnt connected to the return steel tube. (I've seen this before)

the water light on the dash comes on, then its is in the bulb in the fuel filter. the lines arent crossed (99% sure) the washer lines arent connected to the fuel.
the amount of water in the fuel varies, it normally is about approx 100mm evry 3-4 months.

I have a Funnel that removes water , It's called Mr Funnel... It has some fancy filter thingy in it, made in th USA bought it from Burson for aprox $40 . an inexpensive Item to Guarantee no water getting in...

JUST MAKE SURE THERE IS NO WATER LEFT IN THE TANK...service mechanic may have done a slack job in checking

What conditions are you driving in?
Does it happen when you drive in wet weather?
You could be getting water in through the breathers make sure all the small hoses are in good condition & some fuel systems have small plastic canisters that breather hoses go to make sure there all ok. if all that is ok try a differant servo
