A Tigerz11 10000 pound w/cable can be bought new for $595.00. (out of stock though)

A Tigerz11 10000lb with synthetic rope is $695.

An ironman 9500lb with cable is $759.

These winches are proven reliable and strong.

Here's a link to a vid of a tigerz11 10000lb with rope in action.

If you are after a brand name for good price you can go for a Warn Tabor Winch for $1025.

Or you can lash out and grab and brand new comp spec highmount.
Click here for info : High Mount Winch

You can check out the rest of the website for the Warn Range of winches. www.4h.com.au

I would suggest a 12000lb winch for a GQ wagon. My GQ is around 2.6 tons when I go on day trips and 3 tons on longer trips. You want as much pulling power as possible for a vehicle like this. Most winch manufaturers suggest 1.5 times the GVM of the vehicle as pulling power for the winch, but I think you're better off going 2 times the GVM.
I bought the 12000lb Tigerz with plasma rope and I'm happy with it so far (apart from a weird noise when spooling out). I had to do one tricky recovery - 10% uphill bogged in heavy mud- and I the winch got me out. I'm not sure if I would choose plasma rope again as it has a couple of limitations like abrasion, low heat resistance and is prone to damage. A good old steel cable with roller fairlead is only 15kg heavier.

Check the weights on some winches, they are double others, which will mean new springs in the front.. you probably will anyway with a new winchbar and any winch.

Good point Bruce. However, I didn't notice any difference at the front when I put the ARB steel bar and the winch on. No noticeable sagging and no difference in driving and I have 5" King Springs.

Hey guys we sell a winch rope protector for synthetic rope which has been a popular seller lately.

1.5m of high abrasion resistant sheath is $19.50 free delivery Aus Wide.

You can slide it to any point in the line to protect your rope from anything that will damage it!
