It's about time somebody just starts with a HiLux Chassis and works from there instead of endlessly stuffing around with HiLux diffs and big motors in suzuki's. Looking forward to seeing the finished product

Body looks a little bit too far forward on the chassis?
PS this should be in the toyota section
Seriously, this makes more sense than trying to fill a sierra full of hilux stuff - There's alot less stuff to troublshoot.
Steve.

i plan on moving the diff forward and chopping the bod a little to suit.
Also i have 6" TJ jeep flares to go on which should hide any chops i make.
So it will be a commodore powered, suzuki bodied, hilux chassied thing that looks like a wanna be jeep with tj flares.
I was a little unsure of what section i should be posting in but im pretending its still a suzuki i dont like hiluxs + someone else may want to do a similar conversion.

I cut off the body mounts and ground some off then welded them back on to suit. Cut the rear mounting crossmember of the suzuki and welded it onto the chassie and mounted the body to that. I also kept my 2" body lift so the trans tunnel would clear on the sides. It sits a little higher than id like, the bottom of the body sits level with the top of the chassie. Just sorted the steering column, had to mount it quite low lucky its a tilt one, pushed the firewall out a little so the steering shaft connected to the nuckle and welded the column mount to the sierra cab crossmember.
next is brake and clutch pedals. Its taken 3 days so far working 5hrs a day, solo so far. Will probably take a few weeks to tidy loose ends and make it look pretty

going to swap to a coil rear end and chop the chassie as close to the diff as possible. I will run the standard suzuki alloy tray putting around town and a short tube and checkerplate one for offroad. For starters tho i will just be keeping it simple and get it up and driving a.s.a.p , then work on the mods after
sorted the pedalbox which wasnt as easy as you might think, theres not a lot of room down there. Steering column is mounted and working all be it a little low. Radiator is done, had to use 2 small thermos instead of 1 big one as the crank pulley is too close to the radiator. Today i mounted the traythat im gunna be using for the street, started the motor breifly by bridging a few wires i think i will be shipping it to the auto elecy to sort a few things, and played around with ideas for the rear bar (note the custom plates X-mas prez from my mrs )
bolted on the flares and played around with the front bar today to get some ideas, might just leave it like this to keep it simple. The flares just cover the tyres, but i will be going at least another 5" wider in track so that stuffs that idea. Another issue is height, the front of the bonnet measures 1.3m high, with another 2" suspension and 36" tyres it is going to be stupid by the time ive finished. Realized i cant fit it out the rollerdoor so i have to dig out my side fence till i can get a gate yay!!!
Off to the auto elec friday better start digging

i have the wider 6" tj flares on, the only reason i need another 2" lift on the front is the cross over steering kit will only fit with a min 4" front susp lift. This is the kit i will be using for the front http://www.superiorengineering.com.au/p ... ts_id=3094
I have a surf coil rear i will be modding for the assend
but my main objective is to get it driving on the road first so i can sort out any little things that come up. I hate doing a mod on a car and having something fck up, not knowing if it was due to a pre existing thing or the mod. Fingers crossed mr po-po stays away while its on the road
