I pulled the front wheel bearings out today to check them and found that the original lock nuts and tabs have been changed for the later style ring lock nuts (these ones http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Hub-Socket-Nut-K ... 240%3A1318 )
The problem was that the bearings were loose ie the nut and lock ring were not hard up against the outer bearing. I dont know if they were installed incorrectly by the previous owner/mechanic or they have worked loose.
I have regreased the bearings and locked them back up tightly, but I was wondering if anyone else has had problems with this style of 'lock nuts' coming loose?
I can't see how the new style ring nuts can come loose because the two screws hold them in position. But as said above, you need to re tension them after a couple of k's. Maybe someone forgot to do this on yours.

Usually LHS wheel will screw the tab back through the thread. I have changed all my lock nuts to late model type.
i paid $44 for the new style lock nuts and washers from Nissan in the blue mtns... don't think id pay $110 just cos you get a tool...which i made out of scrap steel and bolts.
