Should there be an intake pipe on the front of the air filter housing? If so, were should it go to? It's a 2H diesel in an FJ45 (not the original engine).
joel HJ60 wrote:Airs got to get into the housing doesn't it. Makes it easy to plum a snorkel up.
Yeah, I'm thinking about cutting that off, turning it 90* to face the side panel and then put a hole through the side panel.
That'll be the ticket.
It will be facing that way to pick up fresh air from just behind the headlight maybe. I'd assume there is some plumbing missing that would have run down there.

That is what I was originally asking - where should the pipe that is obviously missing have run to...
It doesn't really matter. You could leave it as it is or run some flexy intake hose to somewhere that is safer from water and gets fresher air. But as the other blokes have said, make up a snorkle and then connect the two. I would use flexy hose from wherever your snorkle comes in to the existing intake on the air filter, don't bother cutting it.
The original pipework goes straight from that inlet you have to just behind the headlight. It does'nt really get any air flow, so what you have suggested, with the snorkel, sounds like a much better idea.
Repeat, 2H came in the HJ47. Both ute and troopy can be classified HJ47. HJ45 had H motor which is 3.6 litre diesel.
Back to the original issue - who cares where the intake was, do what works for you and the setup you have.
ok
didnt know utes were hj47 aswell.
I dont think his setup is a factory hj45/47 setup, looks like the gear out of a 60 series to me. In which case, he will need to fab something up anyway.
