HANCOCK...........Get your hand off it

I will tell you what.......This year we will get you on the mic, and let you have a lash at the title. Show us how its done.

We only call what we see, and some people find it handy to hear what is going on if they cant see the stage.

I was at Toperi, I also enjoyed the silence.

Having said that. a competition of TTC's magnitude MUST have commentators for those who cannot see, for sponsorship reasons and to update those who may have missed something earlier that day. These are just a few reasons straight off the top of my head, I'm sure others will add to this list.

I've got to agree, some of the stickers were put in bad places.. eg random people's paint work, spectators vehicles etc..

Just goes to show that you cant please all of the people all of the time.
I will be taking on board a lot of ideas and comments that were expressed in the thread on commentary after this years event. I am always looking to improve and provide a more professional and informed point of view when I am on the mic. I do not expect everyone to appreciate what we do, but from what I can gather, we have been fairly well received by the majority.
For 09, I will be approaching the event with the priority being to make sure the competitors and sponsors get a "fair share of the air" so to speak.
Perhaps you should take your Ipod, Hancock?

I agree with Hancock these guys did not stop and it was far too loud, try to stick to the facts. Obviously you still need to give the sponsors a wrap and you are trying to do a job. I think with this information and other feed back the event can improve.
(this opinion was shared by a lot of the people around the events.)

I'm sure Rick and Taps are listening as everyone needs feedback BUT try talking pretty much non stop for about 12 hours and keep the mood good and the info flowing with only 2 people. They do a RED HOT job. The Channel 9 cricket team have about 5 team changes in a day of a test match.

Yes its needed.

In fact...I think it should be taken a step further and turned into a broadway musical. There is an unmistakable chemistry between Rick and Taps and man-love is not new to musicals.

I wasnt there but from reading this thread I dont think the issue is weather it should be there or not, but rather should it be so constant and so loud and in your face.
I like commentry at events, but I have also been to events where it just doesnt stop and it is so loud you cant even talk to the person next to you without yelling.

Just to clear up a couple of points.
Firstly, Taps & I have no control over speaker placement, or to some extent, the volume. This is something the PA team look after, not us. In fact, last year I asked for more speakers so we could run less volume, but it wasnt viable at that point.
As mentioned earlier, I have taken on board a lot of feedback, and I look forward to hearing your views on this years effort when the time comes as well.
Hancock, I really do look forward to seeing your point of view after this years TT.

Cheers,

Rick.

Ive been to lots of events and most TTCs and i thought you guys actually did a great job last year. Better than a few years before when all we got was "GIVE IT SOME MUMBO" all day long.

My 2c. I think HANCOCK is one of those drunken D!$K head that cause nothing but trouble the at TTC. If you don't like it. There is a real simple solution DON'T come this year. Nobody is making you come.

I have been every year. Taps and Rick have done a superb job. Every year they just keep on getting better. As for the PA team in my opinion they do a fantastic job.

Keep up the good work boys.

What about broadcasting on FM as well, then everyone on the whole site that has an FM radio could hear the action, you would only need a 5 or 10 watt transmitter.

I think the action speaks for it self, like when you go to the cricket or footy or any other sporting event you don’t get constant commentary. People can see what’s happening its doesn’t need to be force feed to them. In saying that I think there is a service to provide but maybe only before and after runs and in recoveries.

I would also like to thank Rick for replying in a professional manner and hope this hasn’t been taken as a personal attack. Big ups to those who are brave enough to give it a go!

The difference with the cricket is everyone is watching the same thing. At TTC you can not watch all the courses at once. I think its good to be able to hear whats going on in other areas of the event.

And if you pay careful attention to those in the crowd at the cricket, a vast number are actually listening to commentary on radios whilst watching it live. If commentary didn't enhance the spectator experience, then all of the many, many sports worldwide that have it would be canning it.

Good commentary is an art form. The more these guys practice it and take on board the criticisms, praise and advice the better they will get at it.

fm transmitting sound like a great idea.

you could even sell some cheap FM's on the weekend for those that didn't bring their own.

cruiser Park had it at one of the events which was good when you were near the car

Actually, being a bit of a short ar$e myself, I don't get to see a lot. The atmosphere at TTC is one of a kind and the commentary is part of creating that atmosphere.

Big thumbs up for the FM transmitting idea.
