Power Up on GU TD4.2

Post by GU-ish »

gday all
1st time writing long time reader

i have just brought a 2000 GU cab chassis TD42
it was running 17psi boost and i asked the bloke if he had tinkered with the fuel pump as well but he said he hadnt... he recons there is a vacume line from the turbo to the fuel pump so wen it makes more boost it sucks more fuel hence not needing to change the fuel pump around etc...

im just wondering if this is normal or should i take it somewhere to get it all tuned and what not???
it has a 3" straight through exhurst as well.

any help would be great.
thanks

get it tuned... definately!

Wind the boost down i suspect to about 13-14psi, up the fuel, install EGT and boost gauges and dyno tune it. Watch your power vs fuel economy vs temps.

Check this fourm there are posts everywhere about this and where to get it tuned propoerly in VIC.

that line from turbo goes to air/fuel control...it limits fuel at low boost to control smoke/overfueling, once the eng reaches the boost setting in air/fuel the pump delivers max. fuel as per mechanical/governed setting

17psi should be lighting up tires left right and center if tuned properly.

Go see Andy at Diesel-tec in Lilydale.. he is on this forum, and really knows his shiz.

Anything is possible.

Still waiting on the stage 3 housing to come.. Its being made.
Havent bothered with anything during December with the stupid season, but will call Andy this week to see where we are at.

I'd still be in bed stuck to the sheets if mine came up like that. it was so much better to drive with 115-120kw and the torque increase...

AFAIK standard turbo is only good for 12pi, anymore and it just heats the air and egt go too high to be safe.

Andy at Diesel-tec and Joel at PGS know there stuff, they will be able to shed more light.

Do a search, plenty of info here.
