new radio installed = no tail lights / instrument backlights

Post by TH850 »

hey guys, i've just installed a pioneer head unit in my 93 rodeo.
now when the parkers are "on" theres nothing there, and the backlight on the speedo etc. is missing. it's blown the fuse so what could it be? the only thing i can think it might be is i've got the "power" and "acc" mixed up. going away on monday so any help would be appreciated!

You have connected the earth wire from the stereo to the dash light wire from the original radio instead of the earth wire. Very simple mistake and see it alot.
Move your stereo earth wire to a bolt or screw that goes into metal behind the dash.

Ohhh thats unreal I came across this thread, I was literally just about to book a time into the autoelec.

I have the same problem I think.... only difference is I installed the stereo the same day I bought the 4x4 and am unsure if the lights were working before hand or not....

I have a GU Patrol and installed a new headunit, speakers sub and amp and then also have no instrument lights, no parkers, tail lights, emergency lights or reverse lights.... brake lights work and headlights work and the fuse is blown but instantly as you put a new fuse in the moment you push it in it blows...

I'll try what Killalux said tonight and let you's know weather its fixed the problem or not! :)

one good way to check this when installing your unit is to run a test light from a positive feed from the unit to the earth wire you are planning to use and then flick your headlights on, if the test light cuts out its no good.

hope this helps
