HOW BIG???

Hey Guys, I have a 93 Disco V8 with 2" suspension lift. Just wondering what size tyres will fit??

Depends on how much you want to cut.

You will require a little trim with 31s so i would imagine alot for 33's, but it can be done, you might have to get some flares to cover up all the cutting, an then you will have to look at lower diff ratios and possible stronger axles.
So i would go with a smaller tyre if you arn't going to be doing to much extreme 4wding.

I've heard that 31's on your average Rover is pretty much the same as 33's on your average Patrol (clearance wise). Is it really necessary to go that big?

Of course it's necessary to go that big.... if thats what you want.

Rangie Spares squarish flares and the associated trimming I'm pretty sure were designed to suit 33's without a body lift (check their website). You don't have to use the flares, but its a lot of cutting to make them fit.

245/70R16's Are a good size stand 30.6" tall and you only need to do a slight trim to the rear of the back guard

Buy some flares, trim the gaurds and stick the 33's on, or buy some 255/85/16's (narrow 33's) and you could get away without the flares, but will just need a gaurd trim. just do it, you know you want to.

i am running 35's, 2" lift and i cut everything i could out of the guards and still need to be a little higher as there is little room.

A little body lift will help too. It can be done with 33s and only flares and 2inches of lift but to stop rubbing tyres regularly you need to space the bump stops downwards (less clearance means stiffer springs/shocks) or a little bit of a body lift. (I also have the quarter panel tank for the gas so I went the body lift as well) but only have around 40mm and it works pretty well now.

we have put 35 inch tyres on a disco one using a 2 inch lift and lra flairs
with no rubbing did minor bumpstop adjustments

I have a 97 disco 2" springs lra flares (plenty cut out) 35" bighorns rubs in a few spots as expected. Just have to get some decent priced longer brake lines n throw in the 2" body blocks i have 4 it to stop this, touch wood.

My old man had a 93 v8 disco which had a 2inch lift and was running 265/75/r16's and had to cut out the guards a bit and they still rubbed under full flex at the back where there are plates on each side, on the right hand side, the plate covered the fuel filler. He also ran 35" simex et2's with the same 2inch lift, but had to give the guards more of a haircut, nearly up to the door handles at the back and to stop the tyres from severly rubbing on the plates he just ammered them in a little bit but still rubbed quite alot inside the guards, and use to turn the child lock on at the backdoors everytime he went over a washaway fast and for flares, he used rubber flaring from clarke rubber, cut it to length and bolted it on.
i would suggest to use the lra bodylift setup, i believe that it is a roadworthy kit aswell. or definately extend the bumstops.

ive got a mate with a S1 disco wearing 35's with only bout a 3" lift and plenty of guard trimmin. doesnt seem to scrub much either.

A lot depends on the rims you use and the offset, i run 265/75/16's which are close to 32" with a 3" lift and a camel cut and find the size is pretty much perfect for what i do.

I had 33 x 10.5 bfg muddies on my disco, no body lift, standard bump stops. I only had to trim the rear of the wheel arches (f & r). But it took several goes before they cleared in all situations, then I still hit the part that the rear mud flap fix to - can be fixed, but I never did.

With 33 x 12.5, you would need flares and more arch trim.

Suspension lift doesn't prevent larger tyres hitting stock wheel arches if the bump stops are stock (unless springs are so stiff your axle doesn't hit the bump stops).

loanrangie is right - a lot depends on the offset and how wide a tyre you go. According to one of the tyre fitment guides a 7.5 R16. This diameter almost equals a 33 inch "road tyre" and will go on a disco on standard rims with no offset as it supposedly tucks into the guards with no issues...except..

They would look pox though like a lot of yotas you see with the split rims....so cut the guards fit some flex flares or LRA flares or the imported UK poly plastic flares and have a go. If you have the lpg quarter tank recommend a bit of body lift though as well and / or extended bumpstops.
