surf advice?

Post by --sinner-- »

well seeing as though all the zooks i keep looking at buying get sold before i get there, i take it as a sign to keep my 89 surf.
its a 2nd gen, with a 2LT motor, still mechanical pump.
atm its running an exhaust which the previous owner cut down just after the front doors...
im finding a great lack of performance on the highway? around town the thing gets up and goes fine.....for a 4banger pulling all that weight i suppose.
but as soon as its up around 90-100, im almost flooring it and she wont want to go more? i see other surfs fly by at easily 130!
do you think the exhaust attributes to this?
or something else?
it doesnt use water, doesnt overheat, and doesnt use....too much oil.

should i go a new exhaust? and if so....should i go 2inch straight through with no muffler? or should i get a muffler?
or bigger diameter?
any advice much appreciated.
cheers all

LOL i think that if all the zooks are gone before you get that its a sign that theyre really good and you need to try harder. yeah i too have a gutless surf. boosts bettween 8-10 psi on the highway. if i floor it it will creep up to 120kph sometimes even 130 depending on slope, headwind, temprature etc. But i dont think the exhaust would make it worse, if anything it would make it better, i think its just the 2.4 surfs are gutless pieces of crap. My first car was a zook and it still is the best 4x4 ive owned apart from the lack of suspension, which is the reason i sold it.

that surf flying past you may have a 1KZ-TE under the bonnet, rather than the 2.4L

How much weight are you carrying, the 2.4 is only a small motor that's around 24 years old, the turbo is not going to contribute so much to top speed

What size tyre's do you have on it.

Even having air con on etc drains the top speed out of mine.

can pull 110 easy, 140 with a tail wind loaded...
Has the head been replaced?
Had a 90 surf with the 2.4DT ran sweet till I ^%$#^$&^ the head..
Got it rebuilt but it never ran the same again..
Drop in a V6 & just have some fun with it...
