MQ Splines, Axles and sun gears

Post by WICKED »

Is the spline on the rear axles the same through out the diff ratio's?

I have a diff and can't install the long side axle from a 4.6 diff. The end of the axles bottom's out on the centre and there is still about 12mm to go.

Short of cuttin the tip of the axle and re-machining the bearing taper, what can I do? I'm looking for a 4.3 axle just to test with.

Thinking that the Star gears on the 4.3 and 4.6 diffs are a different width.....

Any thought?

wicked

on the rear of the MQ MK's the axels touch each other in the center. Thus needing the correct shims behind the backing plate to set up the end float.
loosen up ur short axel retainer nuts pull it out a little and try putting in the long axel. If this helps get it in further there may be a spacer or somthing missing.. Cant remember whats in there..
