E-Locker in a 40

Post by Cmy40 »

HI Guys.

I have had my BJ42 now for 18 months and have loved every minute wheeling in it but i have started to find little an annoying thing about it. The previous owner had put an electric locker from an 80 or 75 series in the rear and an auto locker in the front. The electric locker i can not fault, it is great but the auto locker in the front makes life just too hard on tight tracks. The majority of the time i drive until i get stuck then lock the front hubs in. I set myself the task this weekend to swap the centers over. Now when i had all the axles out and parts everywhere i noticed that one axle in the rear has a long spline (100mm of spline) this is needed for the electric locker and the front only has the standard length spline (approx 40mm). Now i am pretty sure 75 series came from the factory with elcetric lockers front and rear (im guessing what this is as it has toyota stampes on it). Is it possible to purchase a front axle from a 75 and slip it in?

cheers
Adam

Stick the E locker back in the rear, sell the front auto locker and buy an ARB.

Thanks, i thought they might have been longer but wasn't sure. As far as the previous owner changing the housing, i rang him and said that he didn't (don't know whats going on here then). Also not all of us can afford ARB stuff, especially when that gear would be worth more than the entire 40!!! Thanks for the help.
