aftermarket engine mounts vs genuine nissan

Post by Yom »

Hi chops.

Well finally tore an engine mount. One under the injector pump too so will be fun to change I'm imagining.

What are those aftermarket engine mounts on ebay like compared to the genuine nissan items?

I know they're cheap, around $50 delivered but that's no good if I end up tearing i again next time I go out and start giving it some shit. THe genuine nissan mounts seem to hav put up with a bit of punishment for 265,000km so I'm inclined to just go that way... But wouldn't mind checking either way. ;)

Thanks

I am using some eBay specials now. Havent had any issues with hard driving (my TD42 is N/A though). The actual rubber mouldings and steel body on the vheapies looked pretty good too IMO. I just have to get myslelf a gearbox mount next.

engine mounts

I changed both my genuine nissan mounts as 1 was broken after 180,000 klms , i used aftermarket mounts and broke them both with in the next 20,000 klms .
So i would definately suggest genuine nissan mounts in there , well worth the extra outlay to not have to do the job again so soon .

I bought the one's off ebay.....and they didn't fit properly as the mounting lugs didn't line up....

That and the fact that the one under the turbo was a pain to replace so I got my ebay specials refunded and dug deep for geniune items. Better to do it right first time from my experience....

Depends on what you class as hard driving too I guess.

Mine are 265,000km old. They've been a bit how ya goin but they definately gave way from giving it heaps of shit up big hills yesterday. Drivers side looks like the rubber has completely detached from the metal plate. On a slightly unrelated note the motor runs really, really smoothly after visiting max revs a few times yesterday hehe

Can't wait to have a daily driver...LOL

engine mounts

Post by henry »

I have tried the aftermarket mounts and the one i used gave a engine vibration thru the whole car, really badly. So replaced it with a genuine one and have done some hard driving with it for 3 years now and not a problem.
I ought to report you to the f#cking RSPCA neville.

I replaced both my engine mounts about 6 months ago with A/M items and ended up breaking one about a month and a half ago. Thought it was kinda dodgy but hey, their cheap so i got another one and just chucked it in. If another breaks though i'll be huntin warranty or just go Genuine. Its abit of a pain in the arse to do them but hey, it gets driven hard, its expected to get breakages.

Just a quick update. My cheapy engine mounts are now back to metal on metal now. Cold idle will shake the fillings out of your teeth - so now i'm back to square one when i had ratshit genuine ones.

I'm going to hold off until the turbo goes on before replacing them with GENUINE ones next time.

Not sure which ones i got (they are not genuine) and they have been fine touch wood. They are the early model GQ mounts bought off ebay.

I have a turbo diesel that doesnt go to bad and so far it has survived approx 4000ks of abuse. I had a turbo petrol before that with the same ones and as far as i am aware they are still going also.

So it has got me beat how everyone has dramas with them.
Now i have writen this i will go out and tear one apart probably.

sorry to bring up an old topic folks, but would i be correct in assuming that front engine mounts would tend to go prior to the rear mount? cheers

Yes, as that is where the most engine movement is from torque/load. They dont always have to "go" for them to be ratshit, just fatigued enough for the two metal plates to contact.

If you're going to fork out for new engine mounts, why not go the whole hog?? When i put my turbo on i'll be doing all four. They sound/feel like a new car with new engine mounts.....

This is not going to help anyone right at this moment but we are currently drawing up an "unbreakable engine mount" for the 2 bolt GQ's then the 4 bolt later.
I was having a lot of touble tearing factory mounts from steep decline/ inclines.
We made a set for my comp truck approx 1 year ago , it has been rolled twice done a lot of comp stages and no signs of tearing.
if these go on the market they will have a no condition lifetime warranty against breaking/ tearing, you break it a new one will be yours and you tear the flexible joint we will replace it free of charge.

At a rough guess we should be able to sell the 2 bolt mounts for about $60-$80 per side , probably not much benefit if you never break mounts.

But for the guys who are punishing their trucks these will be worth it.
4 bolt mounts i have never taken notice of these so i would not be able to give a approx price as yet. hopefully about the same price.

Are they going to offer the same/similar cushion and comfort as genuine ones? Its not likely that i'll break one cause of the massive power my N/A TD42 puts out, but i'm more than happy to pay for a quality piece (after my cheap/nasty ones) that stops all the noise and vibrations.

If you have a pic of a 4 bolt it would be appreciated if you emailed it or pm'ed to me, just gives me an idea of what they look like to a 2 bolt.

If we do the 4 bolt i will purchase a factory one to measure.

The design of the factory mount will cause vibration once they become torn or soft this seems to be caused by the engine mount and the chassis mount rubbing on each other
The mount we have done previously does not allow the vibration to happen as its design is nothing like a factory engine mount.

well this is good news, as i've contemplated/been told but a number of fellers to chaining my motor down, as its had the same problems as you. You have a buyer here if you get them built, I'm all for replacing once and be done. Less to worry about IMO.

please keep me in the loop

Would be good for you patrolers to have a decent engine mount.

I broke my drivers side mount not long after it was replaced. I left the prick as it only made noise when turning and accelerating at the same time!
