what is the most boost from a tdi ?
im looking at trying to extract a bit more power from my tdi due to the fact my cummins re power idea has hit a brick wall.
im looking at 20 psi im thinking i will need to oring my cylinder head and run a copper geasket
i will also go dgas whilst im at it as well as a bigger intercooler (bigger again ) and possibly 3 inch system im not chasing huge horsepower but want an engine that is not strugling with my camper and fully laden running 35s i would also like to fit a zf auto while im at it
am i dreaming or what?

nope sorry not interested in a v8 at all im looking at diesel only. I almost made the plunge for a 1uzfe conversion but i know i would not be happy,
i am a diesel nut through and through. The cummins would have been awesome but was gunna be $8000 on road, for that sort of money i reckon i can get the 300tdi singing i have been searching the net and cant find much in the way of dyno figures people have gotten from the 300, there is a lot of people who say they are getting big power but cant produce evidence

20 psi what would the exhaust temps be on that
i noticed that when i was running bio in my 200 it would have more torque and would run a lot cooler so i cranked up the fuel pump and wound up the turbo boost gauge thingy about 8mm and she flew and running the bio i didn't have to worry about the smoke to much

the diesel gas will lower the exhaust temps a bit and ill be running a hooog intercooler so intake temps will be lowerand if worse comes to worse water /metho injection

I've run over 20 psi in my disco, but the compressor was out of it's efficiency range and didn't flow more air with the higher pressure and air temp.
The 300Tdi in my rangie had a vnt turbo from a 2.8 International engine and an air to water intercooler - over 22 psi no probs.
You can get all metal head gaskets and over- tension the head bolts. I used the normal gasket with over-tensioning in the rangie.
When I finish the 4BD1-T swap and other mods to the rangie, I may put the vnt turbo in my disco. If I do, I will see if I can get some ARP studs to replace the stock head bolts.

300 tdi boost
I re-tuned my 300 after front mount intercooler and run 24psi max boost, std head, tod4 turbo(had std turbo, it's just as good in my vehicle) dyno @148kWatts, but 4.11 diff gear made the biggest difference to towing. I can easily tow my 3 tonne car trailer with a/c on and relative ease. EGT's are actually not too different to pre mods.. Max at 650 C after long term wot.

Also tightening in more (smaller) stages, clean threads and good lubrication of threads and under heads help to get the best clamping with head bolts.

you can adjust the push rod on the wastegate actuator or you can fit a boost controller in the wastegate actuator line (what i did) which can cost anywhere from $20 for a manual bleed type valve up to $400 for a electronic multi stage one ebay is your friend

If the engine is in good condition then you should be able to conservatively increase boost with no issues.TimRover wrote:this might sound stupid, but would i have to do much to a standard 200tdi before i up the boost??

I simple way to increase boost is to move the pressure line feed to the actuator to the inlet manifold (so the wastegate sees what the engine sees). Beyond that you can do what cooter says above.

Even 16/17 psi would be OK, beyond that the head gasket will more than likely let go in the long term, or at least that's the experience of those that have run 18 psi +
