towbar gu
towbar gu
hey people
i have a 01 gu patrol ute, and the towbar on it is constantly hitting on things offroad with out the towball tongue in of course. now lately i have been seeing a few gu's going around with a towbar on them which doesnt stick out the back as far and sits alot higher. as in it is close to flush with the end ofchassis rails and sits tight up the bottom of them aswell. if anyone would be able to point me in any type of direction that would be great
cheers jonesy

plate on the towbar on my GU says something like "Fits Patrol / Maverick 88 onwards", so they're certainly similar. However there are different sorts of towbars, and attaching methods.. mate of mine got a GU bar cheap, hoping it'd fit his GQ. It all lines up in dimensions, but the bolt holes are all different.. forget exactly how, but I think it was his chassis had holes at the top of the rails, but the towbar has holes for the side of the rails.JON353 wrote:ill look into a custom one, nut the thing is i have seen about 3 lately all exactly the same. i will try take a photo,
does anyone know if a gq towbar will fit on gu ??
cheers jonesy much appreciated
So in short, Yes, but be careful, and take a good look at what goes where before you spend the $$.

you need a towbar to suit a wagon not a ute. as the chassis are the same they interchange but a wagon one finishes pretty much in line with the back of chassis unlike the ute one which hangs out 25 odd cms. get a genuine nissan one as from memory they fit best(least hanging down etc)

As the rear tank is the same on the Wagon and Ute, I wouldn't imagine that there is going to be much of an issue here.Bingham wrote:remember depending on how much clearance you have it it stops hitting the tow bar check out what is next in line....... might be cheaper to cop a few towbar dings.
