Extractors / Headers for Vitara

Post by 6thgear »

Hi Folks,

Potentially looking at a full exhaust system for my G16B Vitara. Has anyone had any experience with a certain brand system, or even for headers/extractors?

I see a set made by "maxheaders" near Wollongong, up on Ebay, and delivered price seems reasonable. No dyno figures though, so wondering whether this would be worthwhile or not - hoping someone has had experience with these already. Following this, i'd be expecting to pop on a higher flowing cat and custom a 2" catback to help with the breathing...

I welcome any thoughts.

Thanks

Got a 2" exhaust and Genie headers and sports muffler fitted.
Can honestly say I can't notice any improvements , if anything less performance.
Don't know if that's just because with a louder noise I expect some go.
At the moment when I put my foot , theres a louder noise but no extra go . Just wondering if I wastsed my money. I was told they only sell one type of extraters for the Vitara's , because the tuned lenght is a waste of time.

Anyway whaT's differce between between the differant brantd's of
xtrcters anyway?????e

thanks for the replies guys.

strangely enough i'd asked the same question and Rod replied saying that he hadnt dynoed them yet, but will let me know when he does. unless i've got the dates wrong, and asked him prior to last friday...not sure.

hi vit94, genie headers seems like a recognised brand. interesting how you dont feel much response from your system...do you have larger rubber on?

I've got 235/75/15's on, and definitely less fuel economy and a lot slower, hence i was hoping the exhaust to even things out slighly. or perhaps i should look at the transfer gear option...

decisions decisions....thanks guys

Just pay the money and get Genie or one of the bigger names.

I made the mistake of going for the lowest price, and finished up had to rebuild the damn things to get'em to fit. :bad-words: didn't have the time to send'em back and look elsewhere, as I had to get'em on and hit the road asap.

I have Hurricane branded extractors on my G16B in my sierra (along with 2" exhaust and hi-flow cat). Build quality is great, cost $240. I did notice that the engine revved more freely and is able to keep pulling past 5000rpm  . I would choose them over the ebay ones mainly because they are mandrel bent unlike the ebay ones (from what I can tell by the picture).

I have been told my my exhaust bloke that he wont even touch Wildcat extractors, apparently they dont flow any better than the stock manifold. Might be a reason they're so cheap ;) Just something to think about

I know this thread is probably over but I noticed more down low torque after I fitted the Extractors + 2" system + new Cat. One thing you should check is your TIMING as I still wasn't over the moon re: fuel economy after getting the new system.... I got my timing checked and found it to be set at 0 degrees!!! No wonder I was having problems!!! Got it set to 10degrees (I think??) and what a change!!! Better Performance + Better Economy!! A Win Win in my books!!! I was now able to idle up steep hills alot easier than before... no riding the clutch!!! Big improvement in Torque down low....

Now I'm happy

rob

PS: The biggest tyre I run is only a 215/75/15 -- This meets my needs :)

I fitted a set to my G13B in a 90 sierra and they allowed it to rev out much cleaner, very happy, fitted to the stock system. Since fitted a G16A and a weber 32/36 and they seem good on it although I never had the 1.6 motor in the car without the extractors so cant compare.

i have recently fitted a g16b and some of the maxheaders ones from ebay for a pretty good price delivered too i thought. They seem like a good enough product,id say not as good as wildcat/genie etc.I didnt run the car without them tho so i cant compare on HP but just thought id let you know they are made to a pretty good standard etc and were delivered quick,i cannot fault them in my car but me and a mate had to bash and bend them to clear the sierra mounts
