Chevy big block $$

Post by slosh »

Wondering what $$ big blocks go for second hand, ideally a fresh standard engine?

What mods would be recommended if I were to rebuild one for a little more power, although reliability most important?

(it's actually for a skiboat) Thanks for help.

depends on what brand etc.

Ford 460s are often on sleazebay for about $1200-$2200

chev 454 and the likes are always alot more starting at about $3G

and those arent rebuilt either.
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown

This is what I've found so far... but was hoping someone knew of some cheap stuff out there. Hard to believe the BBC are so much more expensive than SBC, I can't see the appeal when the stroker small blocks seem to be cheaper hp.

Thanks for replies and links. This looks a good buy so far- http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 0302134110

Personally I believe the small blocks are better performers anyway, and the fact they come in big cube variations (up to 511ci...yes thats for a small block!!!) only makes them better. And the development that has gone into the sb2.2 head, either way there are an endless amount of options to choose from, but value and performance for money, I believe, lies with the sbc.

EDIT: By the way that motor on ebay looks to be a good choice for a big bolck crate motor, however, a similar sized small block will be more economical with the same power output
